Beyond The Blasting Scales Optional Quest Monster Hunter World Iceborne

Our next Optional Quest in Monster Hunter World Iceborne is the quest, Beyond The Blasting Scales. This quest unlocks after you reach Hunter Rank 29 (HR29), it is a requirement to complete this quest to be able to advance to Hunting Rank 30 and beyond.

This quest has us off to the Wildspire Wastes to hunt two Tempered Bazelgeuse. At this point in the base game you had not encountered tempered monsters yet, so this served as a way to introduce them.

Tempered Monsters

Tempered monsters are regular High-Rank monsters, with more aggression, damage, and a much larger Health Pool. To fight a Tempered Monster, you have to find tracks out in the field which turn your scout flies blue. When you collect these tracks you have a chance of unlocking an Investigation to hunt a Tempered Monster.

Why fight Tempered Monsters?

Simple. It’s the only way to unlock Weapon Augments. When you fight Tempered Rank 2 or 3 Monsters, which tend to be the Large Wyverns and Elder Dragons. You have a chance to get a Streamstone as a reward at the end of the Quest. These would let you upgrade your weapons and armor beyond where they finished in the base game. Unfortunately, this is now mostly surpassed in the Iceborne Expansion.

This hunt against the two Bazelgeuse serves as the entry point for Streamstones and Augmentation grinding. If you’ve already completed some Iceborne content then this quest will pose no issue to you at all. Master-Rank weapons and armor trivialize this quest.

Bazelgeuse is weak to Thunder, Dragon, Ice, and Water. Its weak points are the head, wings, and tail. You can also sever or break its head, wings, body, and tail.

  • Bazelgeuse Talon (dropped by monster)
  • Bazelgeuse Fuse (break the head)

  • Bazelgeuse Tail (carved from tail)
