As you enter the Tomb of Raithwall area you’ll trigger a scene. Continue forward toward the entrance to trigger a Boss Battle with the Garuda.

Boss Battle: Garuda

Boss:Garuda
HP:6,754
Elemental Weakness:Dark
Status Effect Weakness:Sleep, Blind, Silence, Disease, Sap, Lure.
Resistances:Holy (Absorb)
Steal:Gold Needle

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Garuda Boss Battle

If you took down the Wyvern Lord, then Garuda will give you no trouble. You can throw the Eksir Berries we got from helping the Moogle out, on Garuda to remove its Enrage Status. Remember that Flying enemies can only be hit with Bows, Guns, Poles, Spears, Magick, and Technicks. Having a character throw Dark Motes is also an option, and you should have quite a few in your inventory.

Finish the battle, watch the next scene, and you’ll find the Merchant is heading to the base of the stairs behind you if you need to stock up on any status-curing items.

Use the Way Stone to head inside the Tomb, and continue west, down the stairs on either side and onto the bridge to start another Boss Battle. This Boss is optional since you can just run through the door and escape it if you wish.

Boss Battle: Demon Wall (Optional)

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Demon Wall Boss Battle

If you intend to fight this you’ll likely need to use as many Quickenings as you can at the start of the battle. You only have a very limited amount of time before it will crush you against the wall, so hit it with all you have. You won’t need to focus on healing since it doesn’t do much damage, but make sure that characters are set up to immediately cure Blind and Sleep Status. If you’ve been grabbing all the gear and your characters are above level 20 then this fight should be possible but you may have to reload your save and try a couple of times if you get really unlucky.

If you beat the Demon Wall then head back and Save your game, this will restore your Quickenings as well. Head through the door the Demon Wall was trying to crush you against to trigger a Boss Battle with a second Demon Wall. This one you cannot escape from, but it is much weaker than the first.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Demon Wall Boss Battle

This Demon Wall is weaker across the board than the last, you even have more time to finish the fight. Focus on curing Blind and Sleep, then just deal damage. If you have access to Quickenings, then this should be a short battle.

Royal Passage

Head through the door to the west to trigger another scene. Down the stairs, past the Way Stones, you’ll find an Urn containing a map of the area. The Way Stone at the front will return you to the entrance of the dungeon if you need to heal up or buy any items. There are two chests you want to grab in this area, the first is in the northeastern-most corner of the map containing Dispel. The second is the Vanish spell, take the southern path from the Way Stones and then the first eastern path that branches off from it. Take the north exit from this area when you’re ready to progress.

Northfall Passage

In this area, you’ll want to grab a chest that spawns at the end of the western end of the southmost passage, you can obtain a Chanter’s Djellaba. The next chest you can find in the room to the north of the central room, in the southwest corner, this one can contain a Soldier’s Hat. In the row of rooms on the lower level, you’ll find a chest in the fourth room (fourth from the southern exit) that can contain a Flame Staff in the southeastern corner. Make your way to the central-most chamber, and activate the Northfall Pedastal on the south section of the wall here. This will spawn some enemies for you to take care of, before using the Way Stone in the center to return to the group of three Way Stones in the Royal Passage area.

Head south from the Royal Passage and take any exit into the Southfall Passage.

Southfall Passage

Here you’ll find an Ice Shield in a chest, in the southmost of the two eastern rooms on the map. A Paramina Crossbow in the room south of the central chamber. In the cluster of four rooms on the lower level on the western side of the map, you can find a Lambent Hat and a Heavy Coat. Grab any that you need and then make your way to the central chamber and activate the Southfall Pedastal, defeat the spawned enemies and take the new western path. This will take you into the Cloister of Flame.

Cloister of Flame

This area can be divided into multiple levels, the outer, which is where you start. The inner, and the center area. The inner section has a room that comes off of the south part of it that contains a chest with a Blood Sword. The only other chest worth grabbing is in the central area against the north part of the wall, this contains the Shades of Black Technick. Before you can grab it you’ll need to deal with a Boss Battle though.

Boss Battle: Belias

Boss:Belias
HP:15,943
Elemental Weakness:Water
Status Effect Weakness:Sap, Slow.
Resistances:Fire (Absorb)
Steal:Aries Gem
Ether
High Arcana
Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Belias Boss Battle

Belias has strong physical attacks and a powerful Fire Magick called Firaja. You’ll need someone set up with a Gambit to remove Oil, which Belias can inflict, this increases damage done by the Fire element. Keep on top of your healing and he will eventually go down.

After the battle, you’ll gain your first Esper. The Esper Belias will appear on everyone’s license board, but once it is learned by a character it will disappear from everyone else’s board. Remember you can now reset these boards by visiting Montblanc the Moogle back in the Clan Hall, in Rabanastre. You’re also now able to select a second job for all of your characters.

The Dawn Shard – Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

Head west through the door and continue straight past the Way Stone to trigger another scene and receive the Dawn Shard. Head back and use the Way Stone we passed to teleport back to the entrance. Use the easternmost Way Stone here to return to the Save Crystal outside the Tomb of Raithwall. From here you won’t be able to teleport anywhere so instead head east back toward the entrance to the Nam-Yensa Sandsea. This will trigger a scene and another Boss Battle.

Boss Battle: Vossler

Boss:Vossler
HP:9,318
Elemental Weakness:N/A
Status Effect Weakness:Stop, Confuse, Sleep, Sap, Slow, Berserk, Libra.
Resistances:N/A

Black Belt
Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Vossler Boss Battle

After the battle with Belias, this will be no issue. Take care of the extra guards first then finish off Vossler. You’ll trigger a scene after the fight.

When you next gain control of the party you’ll be back in Rabanastre.

Rabanastre

Head to the Weapons Shop and turn in the bounty on the Wyvern Lord we defeated previously to Sherral. You’ll receive 1000 Gil, an Elfin Bow, and the Shell Shield. Sell any materials you might be holding onto and grab any new Bazaar items that might unlock.

Visit the Clan Hall and speak to Montblanc to claim a bunch of rewards for the Boss Battles we’ve completed.

Now that we’ve turned those in there are numerous optional things to do in the game. The first of which is to procure a rare item that will help us steal much better items.

Thief’s Cuffs in Zertinan Caverns – Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

Thief’s Cuffs Accessory

Thief’s Cuffs are an excellent accessory for anyone in your party who steals. You should also have someone set to basically steal from every enemy you run across. It’s one of the only ways to obtain some rare items in the game and also the fastest way to get Gil, by selling the materials you steal from foes. Thief’s Cuffs improve both your odds of stealing and the odds of stealing much rarer items. It also allows you to steal multiple items, on a successful steal attempt, from a foe. **It doesn’t allow you to steal more than once from an enemy though, just gives you the chance to steal multiple items on a successful attempt.

To get access to these Cuffs we need to head into the Zertinan Caverns. For the most part, we’ll be fine here, but after we head past a boulder, the level of enemies will greatly increase and you’ll need to simply flee to the area we’re headed to. Don’t try to fight the enemies, simply run to the area we need to head to.

Dalmasca Westersand

First head to the Westersand, through the Galtea Downs, and into the Midfault. Head south here to the Shimmering Horizons. Here you’ll find the entrance to the Zertinan Caverns in the southwest. Head down to trigger the intro scene to the caverns.

Zertinan Caverns

Invitation to Heresy

Make your way to the southwest exit to head into the Sandfall’s area.

Sandfalls

Head south and take the exit into the Hourglass Basin area.

Hourglass Basin

From here head south, you’ll find a boulder blocking the path, strike it to have it shatter, and open the way forward. All enemies beyond this point, are incredibly tough, simply hold down the flee button and make your way to the southwest exit to enter the north portion of the Undershore.

The Undershore

Here you’ll find a save point to heal any damage you may have taken running through the past section. Heal up and follow the path south, you can actually go ‘off map’ here and follow the path south, then it’ll take a turn to the east. At the southern point of this ‘off map’ area, you have a 25% chance of spawning a chest that contains the Thief’s Cuffs. If it does not appear you’ll need to take one of the northern exits out of the area and then immediately rezone back to this area to try again to get it to spawn. Once you have the Thief’s Cuffs, make your way back to Rabanastre.

Rabanastre

Back in the Sandsea Tavern, you can accept some new Hunts. Grab them all, even though some will be well outside our level range for now. Talk to the Owner of the Tavern to formally accept the Marilith Hunt. Head over to the Westgate of Rabanastre, speak to the Moogle called Sorbet to accept the White Mousse Hunt.

Rimzat’s Sandstorm Investigation

While you’re in the Westgate area, speak to Rimzat the Bangaa to begin this quest chain, offer to help him. Head into the Southern Plaza area and find Cotze by the fountain, speak to him, and then head down into Lowtown. In the North Sprawl area, you’ll find a man named Northon crouched over by the east side of the map, speak to him to progress the quest. He will let you know that his piece of the Windvayne we’re searching for is buried under a Dynast Cactus in the Westersands.

While you’re in Lowtown head over to the west side of the map of the North Sprawl to find another of the Hunt Petitioners, called Balzac, you’ll find him sitting on some crates in one of the dead-ends. That will accept the Ring Wyrm Hunt.

To find the piece of the Windvayne, we now need to head into the Westersands area called the Shimmering Horizons, from here take the south exit to a small section of the Windtrace Dunes area. Here buried under a large Cactus is the Wind Globe item we were seeking. Head back to Rabanastre and you’ll find all three of the friends we previously spoke with hanging out together in the Dalmasca Westgate area. Speak to Rimzat and show him the Wind Globe to be given the Windvane from them. This allows access to an area we’ll visit later once we’re a little stronger and can deal with the Earth Tyrant there.

Our next sidequest takes place in Nalbina. Use the Save Crystal to teleport over to Nalbina Fortress.

Nalbina Fortress

Out the front near the Yellow Save Crystal, you’ll find two guards blocking one of the exits, speak to the woman crouched down near them, and then move toward them to listen in on their conversation. Behind you, you’ll find a Moogle near some Chocobo’s, speak to the Moogle to rent a Chocobo for 800 Gil and then while riding the Chocobo, approach the Guards. This will cause you to be able to access the route to the Mosphoran Highwaste.

Thief’s Cuffs in Mosphoran Highwaste – Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

Mosphoran Highwaste

Here we can get another pair of Thief’s Cuffs as well as complete the next leg of an earlier quest that we started for Dantro’s Wife. Make sure to save your game in Nalbina before heading through the exit to the Mosphoran Highwaste.

South Skirts

Quite a few enemies here are weak to water, so giving your black mage a gambit to cast water magick on them will be helpful. You’ll also find this to be another excellent place to grind up some levels. It may start off a little tough, so stick close to the Save Crystal, but you’ll soon level up and things will get easier.

Head north and try to stick against the wall if you’re not interested in fighting the enemies. Both exits here lead to the Summit Path area.

Summit Path

Here there are two chests you should try to get, the first is along the northside of the area in a small dead-end, just before the northeast exit to the next area. This chest can contain a powerful Katana called the Kiku-Ichimonji. The second chest contains a Golden Staff and can be found on the western edge of the hole in the center of the area. You may need to simply hold the flee buttons, run in and grab the chests then try to escape to another area. The gear is worth it, but it might take you a few attempts to get.

Make your way to the northwestern exit to arrive in the Babbling Vale.

Babbling Vale

Here in the Babbling Vale, take the time to activate the Save Crystal so you can teleport here later. Visit the shop and pick up anything you might want and then head to the northwestern section of the map just before the exit to find another pair of Thief’s Cuffs.

From here head south back to the Summit Path area and then make your way to the exit to the southwest, this will lead you to another part of the Dalmascan Estersands.

Estersands

Broken Sands

If you are high enough level to be able to fight the enemies here then you can take the time to raid the chests in the area for some nice loot. In the very bottom southeast corner of the map, you can spawn a chest containing a Black Cowl. From where you find the Black Cowl chest you can head north, sticking to the east side of the map, until the path turns south to find another chest at the end of this south bend containing a Viking Coat. On the eastern edge of the map, about halfway down, you can find a chest containing a Bangle. At the very bottom of the map in the southwest corner, you can find a chest containing the Obelisk lance. Two small sections of the map to the north of where you picked up the Obelisk, you can find a chest on the eastern wall, about halfway up the map containing a Dragon Shield. To the south of where you first entered this area in one of the small outcroppings here, you can find a guaranteed chest containing Berserker Braces. West and then south from the Berserker Braces chest will lead to a chest with a chance to contain a Diamond Helm.

All of those are great items that are worth the time to farm. Once you’re done, head to the northwest and into the section that leads to the dead-end here. You’ll find a column of rocks here you can knock over. Head across and over towards the trees on this new section, examine them to receive the Valeblossom Dew. To the east of this tree is another set of rocks you can knock over to reach more of the trees, take the Dew from them as well. Once you’ve gathered all three of the Dews, head back up to the Save Crystal in the Babbling Vale area to teleport to the Estersand Crystal, this will take you to the Village where Dantro’s Wife is.

Patient in the Desert Sidequest (Dantro’s Wife) – Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

South Bank Village

Head toward the dock area and speak to the boy, Tchigri, agree to help him travel across the river to the other bank. Speak to Ruksel, then Dantro’s Wife. You’ll then need to head behind the hut and speak to Dran. Head back and speak to the boy at the Docks again and this time agree to head to the other side of the banks. On the other side of the banks, approach the Cactuar family for a scene and to gain 1000 Gil and Wyrmfire Shot.

Head back and speak to Dantro’s Wife, this time give her the Valeblossom Dew we previously collected. You may need to enter and exit the area to update the dialogue, but head around to the back of the tent to speak with the man you’ve helped, he’ll hand over the Barheim Key as thanks. Use the Save Crystal to head to Bhujerba next.

Bhujerba

The next available side quest is over in Bhujerba. Use a Save Crystal to teleport over. Here there are people looking for bottles of Bhujerban Madhu, that are willing to pay 1000 Gil if you find them a bottle. The bottles are scattered all over Bhujerba and can be turned in to any of the NPC’s that enquire about them, you don’t need to find a new NPC for each bottle. Use the table below to help you complete the quest.
