Area information for The Dreadnought Leviathan of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

After speaking to the guard in Bhujerba and being taken to see the Marquis, you’ll trigger a bunch of scenes. Afterward, we regain control of the party aboard the Airship, the Dreadnought Leviathan. There is a Save Crystal directly in front of you, use it if you need then head through the door into the Port Section Area.

Port Section

Here as you move forward you’ll have the alarm system explained to you. Basically, if you touch one of the red webs of lights blocking a passage, then an alarm will sound and Guards will begin to spawn. This is actually very useful, as you can move between passages and set off these alarms to continuously spawn Guards in the area. By doing this you can grind up some levels and LP if you want. There is nothing really worthwhile stealing from the Guards, so just defeat them quickly. Make your way to the dead-end at the southwest of this area to find a chest that has a chance of containing a Partisan, on the easternmost side of the map before the exit to the next area you can also find another chest with a chance to contain a Crossbow. Zone in and out to reset these as normal, until you acquire the items, and then head through to the next area, called the Large Freight Stores.

Large Freight Stores

You’ll start on a raised section of this area, defeat any Guards that might be nearby, and move to the lower level. Here you can find six chests, the easternmost one has a chance of containing Ringmail and the chest in the southeastern corner can contain a Shepherd’s Bolero. Defeat the enemies and grab the chests, before moving through one of the eastern exits into the Starboard Section area.

Starboard Section

There is a chest in the southmost portion of this map containing Sleep Magick, be sure to grab it as you go. As you make your way north there will be chests that can contain Iron Armor, Iron Helm, and Iron Swords. You should have better gear than this by now, but if you need to you can search for them here and rezone if you don’t find them. The Iron Armor is behind the first blocked path you find as you head north. You’ll find the Iron Helm chest in a dead-end around the northeastern portion of this map, it is with a second chest as well. If you head southwest from the Iron Helm chest, you’ll find multiple dead-ends, one of which has an alarm blocking access, in here is the chest that can contain the Iron Sword. Once you’re done, make your way northeast to find the Bulkhead Release near the northernmost exit. Activate the release to be able to take the northern exit into the Sub-Control Room.

Sub-Control Room

Defeat the enemies in the first area here, then grab the chests that were to the east of where you entered the room. There is a chance for two chests to spawn here, one of which can contain the Vega. Head down to the next area and take out the Guards. If you head to the west you’ll find an area that takes you ‘off map’ in here are two chests, one containing the Infuse spell, and the other has the potential to contain a Zwill Blade. On the north side of the lower area is another Bulkhead release that you’ll need to activate, once you have, take the door to the south when you’re ready to move on to the next area, the Airship Berth Access.

Airship Berth Access

From here you need to head south and take the door into the Central Block, you’ll be forced into a battle with several Guards, including two Judges. Once the Judges go down the fight will end and you’ll receive the No.1 Brig Key after a scene. Open the door to the south for a scene with the Princess. In this area you’ll also find a Moogle who runs a store, speak with him and pick up any weapons, armor, or items that you might need. Use the nearby Save Crystal to heal and save, open the Urn near the Save Crystal to obtain the Systems Access Key. Be sure to take a minute to set up Ashe’s Gambits, Equipment, and spend all the LP you’ll have accumulated. Exit the area to the north when you are ready.

Escaping the Dreadnaught Leviathan – Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

The Escape

An alarm will trigger now that we have the Princess with us, you have two choices here, if you are strong enough you can take it slow and defeat all the Guards that will be called as you head back to where we originally started this area. Or you can hold down the run button and Flee back there if you are unable to deal with the sheer number of enemies that will spawn here. Either way, head north then take the passage on the east that will head south. Take the southern exit back to the Large Freight Stores area, here head up to the second level, and take the north exit back to the Port Section area. Here you’ll trigger a scene and Penelo will rejoin the party, afterward, head for the northwest exit back to the Port Launch. Here you’ll trigger another scene and a Boss Battle.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Judge Ghis Boss Battle

Take out the three Swordsmen first, then focus on the Judge. At around 40% HP the Judge will cast a Greater Barrier on himself, making him much more resistant to damage. If you’ve taken on all the marks we’ve covered so far, then Ghis shouldn’t pose too much of an issue. Finish the battle to trigger another few scenes before regaining control of the party in the Bhujerba Aerodome.

Bhujerba

If you need any money or to do some level farming, the Lhusu Mines area called the Oltam Span is available again now. Consider saving enough money to purchase all of the Monographs that we previously unlocked before moving on. Shops are about to get some additional gear, so having 20,000 or so extra Gil wouldn’t hurt.

Once you’re ready to continue, just make your way back to the Marquis Mansion, in the north of Bhujerba. Tell the guards out the front that you’d like to see the Marquis and trigger the next scenes.

Dalmasca Westersand

You’ll regain control of the party in an area called The Western Divide. Use the nearby Golden Save Crystal to teleport back to Rabanastre and go visit the Sandsea Tavern. Here you can accept the quest for the next Hunt, The Wyvern Lord. Head into the Weapons Shop to speak with the hunts petitioner, Sherral, who will explain what you need to know about the hunt. Now teleport back to The Western Divide Save Crystal. Here you can also buy a ton of new gear from the nearby merchant. Quite a few of these items you can try to obtain in chests that are coming up, but if you have the Gil to spare, you can just pick them up here as well. Make sure to grab any Magick’s, Gambits, and Technicks first. Then if you run out of Gil, you can always collect the rest of the gear from upcoming chests. Take the exit to the west to enter the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea.

Area information for the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

You’ll arrive in the East Tanks area of the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea. As you walk forward you’ll trigger a scene, afterward, head to the north to find a chest, this one can contain a Bhuj. Two other chests in the area will have disappeared if you already claimed Sleep and Infuse in earlier areas. The last one containing a Wizard’s Staff can spawn on the western dead-end path of the first platform in the area. You can also steal a Bowgun from the Alraune enemy in this area if you are patient enough. Grab the maps from inside the Urn’s at the top of the ramp near the first platform and continue west towards the next area to trigger another scene.

Platform 1 Refinery

The next area is called the Platform 1 Refinery, there are 6 chests here that we need to try and claim gear from, one containing the Golden Amulet will only spawn once, so you cannot farm it sadly. Equip it to one of your reserve party members to double all LP that the entire party gains from every encounter. The chest with the Golden Amulet is found on top of the large structure to the north. A chest containing an Ancient Sword can spawn on the southernmost part of the map. Round Shield in a chest just north of where you got off the first platform. Windbreaker will spawn in a chest that is also on the large structure to the north, farming three of these will make the Wyvern Lord Hunt much easier. The chest containing the Killer Bow spawns to the west of the large structure, head onto the linked platform, and then head south, the chest can appear on this small area that links to the next platform to the south. Head onto the southmost platform after collecting the Killer Bow chest to find another chest on this platform, on the eastern side, that can contain a Wizard’s Hat. There is also the chance to spawn a Rare Game in this area called Pineapple, he won’t be any trouble for you to take down if he does spawn. Remember to head out and rezone to make the chests reappear if you want to farm any of the above gear.

For the most part, we will move through all of the areas on this map to collect the contents of the chests in each. If this is not something you want to do, skip forward to the Nam-Yensa section and head west to eventually reach one of the entrances to it.

East Junction

Take the northwest exit on Platform 1 Refinery to enter East Junction. Here in the section that is shaped like a “y” in the north, you can find a chest containing a Kogarasumaru Katana. At either end of the “y” shape, you’ll find another chest as well, these can contain the Healing Rod and War Hammer. The southwest most platform has a dead-end that can contain a chest with a Barbut inside. The sand area to the west can contain a chest with Chainmail as well. Exit to the northwest into the Primary Tank Complex once you’re done.

Primary Tank Complex

On the small branch path to the southwest of where you enter, you can find a chest containing Reflect Magick. The top row of three platforms has a chest on the middle one that can contain a Musk Stick. The top left platform can spawn a chest containing the Sirius, a gun weapon. In this area, don’t cast spells around the elemental enemies, it will cause them to become hostile and possibly wipe your entire party very quickly. One platform south of where you obtained the Sirius, can spawn a chest on the east side, containing a Wizard’s Robe. The southern platform that holds the exits to two other areas has a chance of spawning a chest containing a Linen Cuirass on its dead-end path. Once you’re done, take the southeast exit, near the Linen Cuirass chest to arrive in the Central Junction.

Central Junction

In the Central Junction, you’ll find a chest with a Round Shield in the northeastern sand section. A chest can appear on the northwestern sand section containing a Paramina Crossbow, it’s found in the southern portion of that sandy area. The southmost platform can contain a chest with a Lambent Hat. Finally, the small platform to the west that leads to the exit, can contain up to three chests, one of which can hold a Soldier’s Hat. Grab what you need, and exit to the west, into the Platform 2 Refinery.

Platform 2 Refinery

Head to the northwest here to the triangle-shaped cluster of platforms, here you can spawn two chests, the first on the southmost platform can contain a Gold Shield, while the westernmost platform can spawn one containing a Leather Gorget. Grab the items and then take the southeastern exit into the Platform 1 South Tanks area.

Platform 1 South Tanks

Here you can find another chest containing a Kogarasumaru Katana on the southeastern small platform. In the same small cluster of platforms, you can also find a Bhuj on the other southwest branching dead-end platform. The platform containing the southern exit also has a north branch that can contain a chest with a Musk Stick inside. Take the south exit into the South Tank Approach, followed by the western exit to the Yensa Border Tunnel.

Yensa Border Tunnel

Here, make sure to activate the Save Crystal, it’s another one that will allow you to Teleport. Speak with the Merchant nearby to sell off anything you’ve collected and don’t need. Make sure to grab any new Magicks he might be offering. The exit to move on from here is blocked. So instead, you’ll need to head back through the areas to the Platform 2 Refinery area.

West into the South Tank Approach, northeast into the Platform 1 South Tanks, then finally northwest into the Platform 2 Refinery. Take the western exit to arrive in the Nam-Yensa Sandsea and trigger a cutscene.

Area information for the Nam-Yensa Sandsea of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

When you first enter the Nam-Yensa Sandsea you’ll find a Save Crystal and a Moogle nearby. Speak to the Moogle and ask for more details, he’ll tell you about a monster on a rampage. Head west through to the next area when you’re ready.

The Urutan-Yensa Sea

As you follow the bend round to the south, there will be a small section of the map that juts out to the east. This dead-end has the chance to spawn a chest with the Heavy Lance inside. Once you have that, take the south exit to the Withering Shores area.

Withering Shores

Follow the path forward to find the Urutan Eater, a giant turtle, in battle. Take care while dealing with him and try to keep your HP quite high, in case he unleashes a combo. Once you’ve defeated the Urutan Eater, you can journey back to the Save Crystal at The Sandscale Bank and speak to the Moogle to let him know his worries are over. To trigger the next section of this quest, you’ll need to head through the east exit, back into the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea area called the Platform 2 Refinery. Start to climb the platform here heading east and you’ll trigger a short scene. Now head back to the Sandscale Bank where our Moogle friend is for another scene. Speak to him afterward, and collect the Eksir Berries from the nearby flower.

Head west back through the Urutan-Yensa Sea area, and take the south exit back to the Withering Shores. The exit to the east leads to the Augur Hill area that has nothing of note for us right now. The Yellow Sands area also has nothing of note for us, so skip both of them and simply take the exit to the west from the Withering Shores into the Demesne of the Sandqueen.

Demesne of the Sandqueen

Head down to the sand level, and in the northeast, you can find a chest containing a Balaclava. Follow the path to the west, you’ll find a chest with a chance for a Wizard’s Hat in the southwest corner. Head north from here up along the walkway to collect a chest containing the Balance Magick. Having a chain of 20+ Urutan fighters while in this area will also cause the Rare Game, Megabomb to spawn. Get your chain up and look for it here if you want to defeat it. Take the exit to the west once you’re ready, and you’ll enter the Trail of Fading Warmth.

Trail of Fading Warmth

Follow the path north and take the northeast exit to the area called Simoon Bluff. There is some great treasure here to collect.

Simoon Bluff

Head east and up onto the circular platforms, here you can find three chests at the very back. One will only spawn once, containing an Embroidered Tippet. The other two can contain the Chopper, and the Lohengrin, two really great weapons. The northwestern portion of the map can spawn two chests containing, a Soldier’s Hat and a Chanter’s Djebella. The northmost section of the map is where you will encounter the Wyvern Lord Mark that we accepted back in Rabanastre. Beyond it, to the east, you can find three chests containing 2918 Gil, a Lambent Hat, and a Heavy Coat. Before engaging the Wyvern Lord, if you have farmed three of the Windbreakers from the previous areas, then make sure to equip them.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Wyvern Lord Boss Battle

If you have been following everything up to this point, including the early Dustia Farming and completed all of the Hunts. Then this guy shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Since he is flying, only ranged weapons can hit him, like bows, guns, poles, spears, magick, quickening, items, or technicks. Make sure you have your party equipped with Windbreakers to lessen the damage he can do. If you are high enough level, then this is an early game point where you can unlock one of the most powerful guns in the game. All you need to do is steal 2x Wyvern Wing items from this guy. In order to do this, you would need to steal from him and then move two screens away, this will reset the items he holds. Be warned that Wyvern Wings are his rarest item, and you need two. So this could take a while. Trading them in at the Bazaar along with 2x Yensa Fin’s, and a Salamand Halcyon will unlock the bundle called “Late-Model Rifle” at the Bazaar for purchase. This will give you the Arcturus gun when purchased. You can also steal the Salamand Halcyons from the Elemental’s back on the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea. If the Wyvern Lord is giving you issues beating it, the easiest way to do it is to have someone put it to sleep and then only use Magick to finish it off. Magick will not wake a sleeping enemy.

Once you’re done here, make your way back to the Trail of Fading Warmth area to the west and then head northwest to find a Save Crystal and a Merchant nearby as well. This Merchant has some great items for sale, so be sure to grab anything you’re missing. If you’ve been collecting the gear as we go then you should be fine for funds to purchase anything that’s missing. Trying to buy everything, if you haven’t been collecting from the chests then you can pretty easily blow a hole through your Gil stash here. Don’t miss any new Magick’s or Technicks he might offer as well. Save your game and head through the western exit to the Tomb of Raithwall once you’re ready.
