Area information for the Mosphoran Highwaste of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

We’ve been here previously when we were acquiring a set of Thief’s Cuffs. But if it’s your first time, then head north from the Save Crystal in Nalbina to enter the Mosphoran Highwaste.

Mosphoran Highwaste and the Atomos Hunt – Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

Southern Skirts

There is nothing much of note in the first area, the Southern Skirts, so just make your way northwest and take the exit into the next area.

Summit Path

Here on the Summit Path, you can find a chest containing a Golden Staff on the western side of the hole in the center of the area. You can also find a chest in the northeastern alcove that can contain the Kiku-Ichimonji. Once you’ve got the treasures make your way to the northeastern exit and into the next area.

Empyrean Way

None of the treasure chests here are worth worrying about, they all contain restorative items. Make your way north and into the next area.

Rays of Ashen Light

Just to the north of the first western exit, you can spawn a chest containing the Avenger. Grab it and then take the western exit into the Babbling Vale. The other items in this area are unreachable for now.

Babbling Vale

If you haven’t previously obtained them, this is where you can grab the Thief’s Cuffs in a chest in the northwest. Here you can also find the person who posted the Braegh Hunt here, look for a Bangaa in the center of the area called Va’Kansa. This will allow you to formally accept the hunt for Braegh.

The Merchant here has some great stuff for sale as well so make sure to grab any new Magicks or Technicks that are available. Some of the items that are for sale you’ll be able to farm from Treasure chests in the upcoming areas. So i’d only purchase things that you really need. Chances are good you’ll find a free version coming up, or something superior to what is sold here before long.

Make sure to use the Save Crystal so you can teleport here in the future before you leave via the northwest exit into the Trail of Sky-Flung Stone.

Trail of Sky-Flung Stone

The path for this area branches and contains two chests in the center of each branch. The top path contains a one-time-only chest containing Ghillie Boots, while the bottom holds Diamond Armor and Black Garb. Grab the items and continue northeast to the next area. Just south of the exit you can also smash a Weathered Rock to reveal a new path back to the Empyrean Way, be sure to activate this shortcut before you continue on.

Northern Skirts

Continue west from the entrance, staying at the bottom of the area to find a chest containing a Metal Jerkin in the lower southwest corner of the area. You can also find another chest containing Black Garb to the east of the passage that leads to the northern half of the map here.

In the northern section of the map, you’ll encounter the Atomos Mark.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age - Atomos Boss Battle

Start the fight by removing his buffs with Dispel. Make sure you keep Protect, Haste, Regen, and Bravery up on your front-line fighter if you have them. Atomos will ignore evasion, so your Tank is going to take some heavy damage in this fight. It will cure Status effects on itself with a spell called Purify, it also has the ability to heal itself with White Wind throughout the fight.

You may need to take a minute at the start of the fight and remove any other enemies in the area that get pulled, dealing with them on top of Atomos will likely mean a wipe for your party. At 20% and 50% health remaining it will heal itself, below 20% it will also gain a substantial attack speed boost. Try to get it as close to 20% as possible and then wipe it out with a Quickening Chain.

When you hand in the completed Mark to Burrough in the Nalbina Fortress you’ll receive 1,800 Gil, Gaia Rod, and a Platinum Shield.

You can now return to collecting the remaining chests in the area. You’ll find a chest containing a Dragon Shield on the southeastern wall of this upper area where you fought Atomos. In the northeastern portion is a chest containing a Giant Stonebow as well. Grab them and then take the exit to the north.

Halny Crossing

Take the north exit into the Salikawood.

The Omen-Spur

Head north and take the exit into the next area.

Path of Hours

Activate the Save Crystal and save your game before continuing through the northern exit.

Trunkwall Road

To find the Gokuu Pole here, follow the path east and go south at the first split, then north at the 4-way intersection. The small path on the east can hold the chest for the Gokuu Pole. Head back south to the 4-way intersection to find the Map for the Salikawoods on the south path of the intersection. To find the Chaos Mace, pull open the map and notice the three paths that lead to dead-ends at the northern edge of the area, the middle of these contains the chest for the Chaos Mace.

When you’re ready take the east exit into the next area.

Diverging Way

As you enter the area, on the map you’ll notice a section that looks like an upside-down “y” to the north of you. The east branch of the “y” holds a chest that can contain a Bastard Sword. To the northeast of the map is a rectangular platform that can contain two chests. The one that spawns on the western side of the platform can contain a Ras Algethi. Once you’ve got the gear you want, make your way to the eastern exit, and into the next area.

Living Chasm

Approach the gate and speak to the Moogle to find that 9 of his Apprentices are missing. This will tag your map with the locations of all 9 of the Moogles for you to go and find. Make your way back to the Diverging way to continue.

Diverging Way

Head to the northwest and take the exit to the next area.

Quietened Trace

Use the Save Crystal here to add it to your list of Teleport Locations. If you head north here you’ll end up in a fight against the Optional Boss, King Bomb, so instead make your way to the southwestern dead-end of the map for a chest containing the Charm Tecknick.

Take the western exit to the Garden of Decay when you’re ready to continue.

Garden of Decay

Here you’ll find a bunch of the Moogles you were looking for. Speak to them to have them go back to lend a hand fixing the bridge. That should be your first four Moogles returned. Take the exit south to the Sun-Dappled Path.

Sun-Dappled Path

Follow the path around and to the eastern exit to the next area.

Trunkwall Road

Head toward the marker on the map to find another two Moogles. Take the south exit to round up the final Moogles.

Path of Hours

Speak to the last set of Moogles and choose to follow them back to the Gate afterward.

Living Chasm

After the gate is complete, speak to the Head Moogle to receive a Sash as your reward for gathering all of the workers. Take the exit to arrive in the Phon Coast.

Area information for the Phon Coast of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

There is a ton of treasure here on the Phon Coast. The areas are also quite large and the locations of each can be difficult to describe. My honest suggestion in dealing with the enormous amount of treasure here is to make 3-5 passes through each area and then call it a day. By that point, you will have gotten around 80% of the gear that is available. Nothing here is particularly game-breaking and it can all be bought in shops shortly. Use the table above to check what is available and where, if you really want or need something in particular maybe do a couple more runs of that area.

Kaukula Pass

When you first enter the Phon Coast you’ll trigger a short cutscene. Use the nearby Save Crystal if you need and then head south.

The Resetta Strand

Follow the east wall south and take the southeast exit.

Pora-Pora Sands

Continue south and take the southeastern exit into the next area.

Cape Uahuk

Head to the east and take the exit to our destination, the Hunter’s Camp.

Hunter’s Camp

You’ll trigger a scene as you first enter, use the nearby Save Crystal to add the location to your Teleport list. Be sure to grab a map of the area from the Cartographer Moogle as well.

Head over to the shops and stock up on any gear, Magick, or Tecknicks you might want. As I explained above, you’ll waste hours trying to farm gear here, when you can just buy the pieces you want instead and be done with it.

If you’ve previously completed the Earth Tyrant fight for Rimzat, then you’ll find him here in the camp as well. Speak to him to hear what he’s been up to since you cleared the path for him.

Once you’re done with gathering anything you needed here, you can continue on towards the next destination.

Take the north exit into Caima Hills.

Caima Hills

Continue northeast and take the exit into Limatra Hills.

Limatra Hills

Continue to follow the path to the northeast.

Rava’s Path

Use the Save Crystal if you need it before taking the exit into the Tchita Uplands.
