Synthesis returns in Kingdom Hearts 2! Elements of it have changed a little, but it works pretty much the same way that it did in Kingdom Hearts 1. Here we will outline all of the materials you’ll require to completely Synthesize and Upgrade every recipe in the game. We’ll also cover the locations of the missing Recipes, as well as the best Material Farming Locations for each of the required Materials. Best Abilities for Material Farming
Lucky Lucky
Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix changes up some of the best abilities for farming. Instead of Lucky Strike, we now have the ability Lucky Lucky. Lucky Lucky functions exactly the same as Lucky Strike from the original Kingdom Hearts. It boosts the drop rate of items and can be further boosted by equipping the entire party with the ability. Sora learns it at either level; 41, 53, or 99, depending on whether he chose the Sword, Shield, or Rod, respectively, at the start of the game during the Dive to the Heart. Donald learns the ability after defeating Nobodies at the Mansion in Twilight Town. Goofy learns the ability while visiting the Pride Lands, after your battle with the Three Hyenas. It is also available on the Lucky Ring Accessory.
Moogle Level Up Bonuses
As you Synthesize various items, you’ll notice that each one grants a certain amount of experience. This experience goes towards the Moogles that run the Synthesis Shop. As they level up you gain access to various bonuses. C Rank items give the lowest amount of Exp to the Moogles, while S Rank gives a huge amount. Some types of materials are unable to be used until your Moogles pass a certain level.

Serenity Crystal

Serenity Crystal is a rare hard to find material in Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Final Mix. The only Heartless that drops this material is the Bulky Vendor. He only appears once in each of the places below, and then once defeated moves to another place on the list. Once in an area with a Bulky Vendor, you’ll have a warning on the screen appear that says a rare heartless is in the area. To have him spawn you’ll need to shatter some of the scenery in the area. When he does appear, his HP will begin to drop, you need to use the Action Command on him, once below 25% HP to obtain the Serenity Crystal. Be aware he moves faster the lower his HP becomes.

Manifest Illusion is dropped from the End-Game Secret Boss, Lingering Will. If you’re completing the game 100% you’ll need to defeat him once, so you’ll get one from there. More can be found in chests:

- Cavern of Remembrance: Engine Chamber
You can obtain another by completing the “Frontier” puzzle in Jiminy’s Journal. Any other’s that you’ll need can be synthesized at the Synthesis Shop.
Lost Illusion

Lost Illusion materials are dropped by Absent Silhouettes and Data Replica battles. You can also find one in a chest in Radiant Garden’s, Garden of Assemblage. One final one can be obtained by collecting all S-Rank materials, it will be handed over as a reward from the Synthesis Moogle.
Orichalcum
Amount Required: 13
Orichalcum is obtained by defeating the Bulky Vendor Heartless, along with the Serenity Crystal material. See that section for details on the Bulky Vendor. It has between a 10-18% chance to drop the Orichalcum material depending on how low you get its HP. You obtain 2 Orichalcum as rewards for collecting 1000 materials for Synthesis, and for obtaining 55 different types of materials. Orichalcum is also available in chests throughout the game, below is the location of each chest:

Orichalcum+ is obtained as rewards and from chests scattered about the game. You’ll receive one from the Moogles for handing over all types of materials for Synthesis, Completing the “Starry Hill” torn page in the 100 Acre Wood, completing the “A New Day Is Dawning” Musical in Atlantica, and by winning the Goddess of Fate Cup in Olympus Coliseum. The Chests containing Orichalcum+ are found in the following locations:
- Space Paranoids – Central Computer Mesa
- Twilight Town – Sunset Terrace
- The World That Never Was – The Brink of Despair
