Elden Ring Description
Where to find the Dark Moon Greatsword
The Dark Moon Greatsword can be found after you’ve completed Ranni’s Questline and given her the Dark Moon Ring. Head back below the Cathedral of Manus Celes to find the Dark Moon Greatsword. You’ll find an outline for completing Ranni’s entire questline below.
Ranni’s Questline and the Dark Moon Ring
Ranni’s Questline is quite long and complicated, to complete it and obtain the Dark Moon Ring, which will allow you access to the Dark Moon Greatsword you’ll need to complete the following:
- Defeat Radahn causing a falling star to crash into Limgrave and open the way down to Nokron.
- Retrieve the Fingerslayer Blade from Nokron. To open the chest containing the Fingerslayer Blade you’ll need to have spoken to Ranni and joined her cause back in Ranni’s Rise.
- Return the Fingerslayer Blade to Ranni.
- Use the now unlocked Teleporter in Renna’s Rise to access the Ainsel River Main area. Go forward and pick up the Ranni Doll ahead of where you start.
- Use the nearby Site of Grace to speak to the Ranni Doll three times to have it speak back to you and ask for help with the Baleful Shadows in the area.
- Follow the path and head through until you eventually encounter the Baleful Shadow. Defeat it to receive the Discarded Palace Key.
- Head to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library and use the Discarded Palace Key to open the chest in the Library that contains the Dark Moon Ring.
- Return to where you fought the Baleful Shadow and continue on past the Lake of Rot and into the Grand Cloister.
- Follow the path of the Grand Cloister to a coffin resting on the edge of a large drop-off. Climb into the coffin to be taken to a boss battle with Astel, Naturalborn of the Void.
- You’ll find after the battle that a large barrier blocks the way, if you have the Dark Moon Ring you’ll be able to pass through the barrier and take the elevator up to the Moonlight Plateau.
- On the Moonlight Plateau, you’ll be able to head into the Cathedral of Manus Celes. Here you’ll find a hole in the floor you can platform down to find Ranni. Interact with her to give her the Dark Moon Ring. You’ll find the Dark Moon Greatsword down here as well, although you may need to visit the Site of Grace and reload the area to spawn it.
