Destiny Islands Walkthrough Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Final Mix
Welcome back to our second episode, today we’re finishing off Destiny Islands in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Final Mix. We’ll be completing a 100% playthrough for you guys to follow along with. We will cover all the chests, dalmations, cutscenes, and optional bosses throughout the game.
When you wake up you’ll be in control of our main character, Sora. Speak to the young girl nearby, Kairi, to learn about our quest to build a raft. First things first, we need to gather some items to complete it so we can leave the island. You’ll need to collect:
- 2 Logs
- 1 Cloth
- 1 Rope
You’ll find the logs first, one is under the bridge, as you follow the shoreline away from Kairi. The second log is on the island with Riku, you can reach it by swimming around the other side of the island and climbing the ladder out of the water.
The cloth is hanging in one of the upper areas of the island, to reach it you’ll need to take the wooden ramp that appears to loop around part of the island. At the top you’ll find a room you can enter and find the Cloth hanging up there. The Rope is behind Tidus who is training on the “ship” area of the island.
You can challenge all of the Final Fantasy Characters here on the island to learn the basics of combat, but really you mostly want to fight Tidus. Parrying him is quite simple and grants you 2 exp per parry. You can also chain him into doing multiple parryable attacks in a row. This can allow you to easily gain quite a few levels if you wanted, while you are here on Destiny Islands. This is especially important if you are playing through on the harder difficulties. Getting to around level 10 before finishing Destiny Islands sets you up for a much easier time with some of the early bosses, if you have the time to grind a bit.
Once your done fighting, turn in your items to Kairi and watch the cutscenes, when you get control again you’ll be on Day 2 of Destiny Islands.
Destiny Islands – Day 2
You need to speak to Kairi on the other side of the island to get the next gathering quest, the door she was standing in front of is now free and you can use it to reach the other side of the island. We can actually start the gathering quest now though, jump into the nearby water and try to locate a couple of fish, you’ll eventually need 3. You should find 2 or so here now, swimming about in the water, simply swim over the top of them to grab them.
Another item we can grab here is the Seagull Egg, to obtain it you need to either climb to the second level of the island by climbing over the Seaside Shack, or go inside it and climb the stairs to emerge at the top. Up here you’ll find a skinny tree you can climb. Climb it all the way to the top and jump over to the other treetop with the large Seagull egg on top. Next, head into the “Secret Place”, by the waterfall to find a mushroom you can collect and trigger another cutscene. Now that we’ve done all that, you should head over to the other side of the island through the door Kairi was blocking on the first day.
Speak to Riku to trigger a repeatable race, the reward is a “Pretty stone” item which can be sold later for 30 munny a piece. You can farm this item if you want access to some early game cash by selling it once you reach Traverse Town.
Once you finish the race, look in the water for the last fish. Over this side of the island you’ll also find 2 more mushrooms to collect. The first is behind a rock blocking a cave near Kairi and the raft, simply push the rock out of the way to reach it. The second mushroom is near the tall tower that Riku tries to climb during the race, check around the base near the bushes to find it.
Near the tall tower, you’ll also find a box to grab and move near the alcove almost directly across from it. Drop the box and climb on top to reach the protect chain that’s in the chest.
Once your ready, speak to Kairi to hear about the gathering quest, the only thing we’re missing is freshwater and some coconuts. Kairi will give you an empty bottle so you can now head back to the waterfall on the other side of the island to get the freshwater, you’ll need to stand under the waterfall to trigger the item. The coconuts are closeby to the raft there is a group of trees, if you attack them they will drop coconuts. You need to collect the yellow ones, not the brown ones.
Once you’re done, turn it all in to end your time on Destiny islands. Watch the cutscenes, when you have control of Sora again make a beeline for the area where Riku was, on the small island, on the first day to receive your Keyblade. Head back to the “secret place” for another cutscene and the last boss fight of Destiny Islands. The Darkside. He fights exactly the same as he did in the tutorial, so wail on his hands and it’ll be over before you know it. After the battle, you’ll find yourself in Traverse Town.

With Destiny Islands behind us now, Sora will wake up and find himself in a place called Traverse Town. This is where the story starts to really pick up steam, we’ll also finally cross paths with Donald and Goofy.
