A Dark Rumour – Belito Hunt
Make your way to the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea’s Central Junction area. From here take the exit into the Zertinan Caverns in the northeast.
If you head all the way to the south of this Canopy of Clay area within the Zertinan Caverns you can interact with a boulder, to move it, and connect this area to the rest of the caverns. To the east of the boulder is a chest containing the Sight Unseeing Tecknick as well.
Head northwest and take the exit out into the Nam-Yensa Sandsea’s Withering Shores area for a scene and to initiate Battle with the mark.
Boss Battle: Ba’Gamnan
Boss: | Ba'Gamnan |
HP: | 115,659 |
Elemental Weakness: | Water |
Status Effect Weakness: | Silence, Sap, Slow, Lure |
Resistances: | - Fire (Absorb) - Ice, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Dark, and Holy. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Elixir Dark Matter |
The battle ends as soon as Ba’Gamnan is defeated, however, it’s still wise to take out the other, much weaker, enemies first to thin the battle out a bit. You’ll want your party buffed up with Protect, Shell, Bubble, and Haste for the fight. As long as you can get the extra’s finished off quickly then this fight shouldn’t pose much of an issue for you.
After the battle is over, Monid will explain what happened and how Ba’Gamnan was the real mark here. You’ll receive 5,100 Gil and a Megalixir as your reward.
Carrot Stalk – Carrot Hunt
Carrot the Malboro will only spawn in the Sun-Dappled Path of the Salikawood if no enemies have been killed in the Salikawood when you arrive there. That includes enemies that can cast cannibalize on each other. Teleport over to the Salikawood and hold down your “Flee” button’s for the entire trip to make sure you don’t kill anything. Take the eastern exit into the Garden of Decay and follow the path south and into the Sun-Dappled Path.
When you enter, Krjn will tell you if Carrot has spawned or not. If it has then you’ll find it to the south, near the exit to Trunkwall Road.
Boss Battle: Carrot
Boss: | Carrot |
HP: | 110,842 |
Elemental Weakness: | Holy |
Status Effect Weakness: | Silence, and Slow. |
Resistances: | - Dark (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, and Earth. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Dark Crystal Foul Liquid Putrid Liquid |
Ideally, for this fight, you’re going to need multiple people with maxed-out Remedy Lore skills. Try to keep your party spread out as well to avoid having everyone hit with breath attacks at the same time. If you have managed to pick up a Ribbon Accessory then this is the fight to bust it out. Make sure it goes onto one of your Remedy users so that they can heal the others.
Having characters use ranged weapons is a great tactic for keeping at least 2 party members out of breath range as well. Dispel Carrot at the start of the battle and whenever he buffs himself again using Hero’s March.
At 50% HP Carrot will use Growing Threat to double its level and become more dangerous. Save your Quickenings for finishing the fight, as once Carrot falls to around 20% HP it will begin taking much less damage and become more aggressive. It can become quite difficult to finish the battle without pulling off some strong Quickening Chains.
Once it’s completed you can turn it into Zammadria in the Nalbina Aerodrome. You’ll receive 5,200 Gil, Stink Bombs, and a Putrid Liquid for your effort.
Adding Insult to Injury – Roblon Hunt
If you’ve previously completed the 3 Medallions Sidequest then you’ll know where to find Roblon. Make your way into the Nabreus Deadlands area called Overlooking Eternity. In case you haven’t been there before, you can access this area by taking a secret path off the map northwest corner of The Slumbermead area.
As you make your way to the top, be sure to defeat the Dead Bones that spawn, otherwise you run the risk of being overwhelmed as you reach the summit. Once the points stop spawning Dead Bones, continue further up the path to trigger the fight with the Mark.
Boss Battle: Roblon
Boss: | Roblon |
HP: | 177,265 |
Elemental Weakness: | Water |
Status Effect Weakness: | Blind, Sap, Slow, and Libra. |
Resistances: | - Fire (Absorb) - Ice, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Dark, and Holy. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Fire Stone Iron Ore Fire Crystal |
Roblon will occasionally inflict Blind on your party so make sure someone is set up to cure that. Keep Shell on the party as he also likes to spam elemental spells during the fight. So long as you dealt with the Dead Bones before triggering the fight, you shouldn’t have much of an issue here. Just keep chipping away at his HP until he falls.
Return to Nalbina in the West Ward area to turn in the completed hunt to Morgen. For your efforts, you’ll receive 3,100 Gil, a Giant’s Helmet, and a Mythril.
The Creature Collector – Goliath Hunt
You can find the Petitioner for the Goliath hunt in Nalbina, in the West Ward. Speak to Barrong to accept the hunt and then teleport over to the Nabreus Deadlands Save Crystal.
The Lifeless Strand
Once you’re in the Nabreus Deadlands make your way north to the next area called The Lifeless Strand. On the small round platform in the north you can find a hidden passage if you check the northern edge that will lead to a chest containing the Warp Magick. On the final platform before the exit you can also two chests on the south portion, containing Aqua Shot and an Opal Ring. Take the exit to the east when you’re done.
Field of the Fallen Lord
You’ll find a hook-shaped area to the north of the map with a guaranteed treasure containing the Cross Scale inside. Grab it and make sure to cast Float Magick on your entire party before you take the exit to the east, this leads to the Necrohol of Nabudis, which has a ton of traps set at the entrance. Once your party is all set, head on through.
Necrohol of Nabudis
Available from Chests: | Hall of Slumbering Might | Doom Mace Power Vest Jade Collar |
Hall of the Ivory Covenant | Zephyr Pole Giant's Helmet Orichalcum Dirk Faith (Magick) |
|

|
Cloister of Distant Song | Yakei Protectga Burning Bow Hypnocrown White Mask |
|
Hall of Effulgent Light | Penetrating Crossbow Silencega (Magick) Hermes Sandals Chakra Band |
|
Notable Enemy Drops/Steals: | Babil | Runeblade (Drop) |
Elvoret | Maximillian (Drop)
Oversoul | Staff of the Magi (Drop)
Pandora | Aegis Shield (Drop) |
Hall of Slumbering Might
As soon as you enter, you’ll find the mark to the left at the end of the first hallway that you start in.
Boss Battle: Goliath
Boss: | Goliath |
HP: | 224,294 |
Elemental Weakness: | Dark |
Status Effect Weakness: | Slow and Libra |
Resistances: | - Holy (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, and Earth. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Holy Magicite Iron Ore Holy Crystal |
Start by removing all of the Baknamy that are around so that you don’t need to deal with them as the fight progresses, ideally remove them before drawing Goliath into the fight. Goliath will put up a Magick Barrier very quickly in the fight making it impossible for you to Dispel his buff’s if you aren’t quick enough at the start. It will focus on Physical attacks and Gravity-based Magicks for the battle. This means you’ll want Protect on your party and a dedicated healer, as the gravity attacks will deplete huge amounts of HP especially if you have the Bubble status on. At critical he becomes much faster, so consider saving your Quickenings for below about 20-30% HP.
Once the fight is over you can return to the Petitioner in Nalbina for 3,600 Gil, a Save the Queen, and an Einherjarium.
The next few parts of this section all take place in the Necrohol as well so we’ll cover them now, including the next Hunt.
Dead City Watch – Deathscythe Hunt
Accept this Hunt in Nalbina, in the Jajim Bazaar area by speaking with Popol. We’ll be exploring the majority of the Necrohol of Nabudis and completing the Deathscythe Hunt at the same time.
Hall of Slumbering Might
Teleport back to the Nabreus Deadlands and head north through the exits until you return to where we fought the last mark, Goliath. All the chests here only have about a 30% chance of spawning so don’t worry if you can’t grab some of the weapons and armor, the Magick is the real prize in this area, particularly Bravery and Faith.
From where you fought Goliath head south and follow the passage, it eventually terminates in a southwest dead-end, here you have a chance to find a chest containing a Doom Mace.
From here, continue to follow the passages eastward. Along the way you’ll find a room off the main path with a chance for a chest containing a Power Vest inside.
Continue along the path to find a one-time chest with a Jade Collar inside, past the stairwell, in the final room of the area. Grab it and then take the exit to the next area.
Hall of the Ivory Covenant
At the very northern tip of this map you can find a chest containing a Zephyr Pole. Follow the path until you reach the north-south split, in the northern room you’ll find a chest with a Giant’s Helmet inside.
Follow the path south, when it splits westward you can find a chest with an Orichalcum Dirk inside. Continue south and you’ll find the path branches four ways, a dead-end to the west, a room south which contains Faith Magick, and finally the path continues to the east.
If you’ve previously completed the Three Medallions Sidequest then you can access a Boss Battle here. Head to the centre of the map area, opposite where you could obtain the Orichalcum Dirk. Here you’ll find the Door of Loathing to the east, you can open it with the Medallion of Love to face off against Fury.
Boss Battle: Fury
Boss: | Fury |
HP: | 69,710 |
Elemental Weakness: | Water |
Status Effect Weakness: | Silence, Sap, Slow, Berserk |
Resistances: | - Fire (Absorb) - N/A (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Blood Wool Moondust Aries Gem |
Set up a character with Foe: Any = Dispel. Fury will constantly try to inflict Berserk on itself, making it much more dangerous. If you can keep Dispelling the Berserk status though, it will waste time trying to recast instead of attacking. You’ll find ranged weapons have an easier time hitting Fury, as its evasion is quite high. Once Fury is defeated be sure to grab the Golden Axe in the treasure chest in this room before you leave.
With Fury defeated we’re all done in this area. Follow the path south and into the next area.
Cloister of the Highborn
Take the path north and then to the dead-end to the west, where there is a chance for a chest containing a Kaiser Shield.
Head back past the stairwell you entered from and continue to take the path south, before turning west. In the first room to the north, you’ll have a chance for a chest containing some Carabineer Mail to spawn. The second room can contain a Jade Gown.
When the path splits, take the northern corridor, search the first room you pass on the western side to find a one-time chest with Black Robes inside. Follow the path north to the very end, here you’ll find a small alcove to the south which houses another one-time chest with an Ensanguined Shield inside. In the southwestern most corner of this dead-end area, you can actually find an invisible Baknamy Merchant, speak with him to be able to purchase the Esunaga Magick.
Head back to where the path split and this time take the western route. The first room to the south can hold a chest containing a Runeblade. Continue west, and go into the northernmost room here to find a chest with the Bravery Magick inside.
Grab everything and then take the exit to the south.
Cloister of Distant Song
Follow the path south, you’ll find a dead-end to the east with a chance to spawn a chest with a Yakei inside. Head west from here to find a chest with Protectga inside. If you continue west you can interact with the Door of Horrors, use your Medallion of Bravery to open it, and face the Boss inside.
Boss Battle: Humbaba Mistant
Boss: | Humbaba Mistant |
HP: | 314,086 |
Elemental Weakness: | Holy |
Status Effect Weakness: | Silence, Sap, Slow |
Resistances: | - N/A (Absorb) - N/A (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Beastlord Hide Beastlord Horn Behemoth Steak |
Your new Protectga spell will really help with this fight. Much of Humbaba Mistant’s damage is Physical. Keep Bravery, Haste, Protect, and Bubble on your team. Make sure you have someone who can cure Disable, or equip your team with Black Belts to make them immune to it for the fight.
Once the fight is over, you’ll be rewarded with a Map for the Necrohol of Nabudis. Head back out of this room and continue south for now.
Follow the path west, you’ll find the first room you pass has a chance to contain a chest with a Burning Bow inside. Continue west, just a little past the stairs is a chance for a chest containing a Hypnocrown, and if you follow the path all the way to the dead-end there is a small northern offshoot that contains a one-time chest with a White Mask inside.
Grab what you need and then take the stairs to the next area.
Hall of Effulgent Light
Start heading north, the first room to the east that you walk past can contain a chest with a Penetrating Crossbow inside. When the path forks, take the northern branch all the way to the end and head into the room there. Here you’ll find that the room extends past what the map shows, in the first section you can find a chest containing Silencega Magick and in the second section is a chance for a chest containing Hermes Sandals. Head back to the split when you’re done and continue east.
The next split that goes south, has an alcove to the east with a chance for a chest containing a Chakra Band. Grab it and then take the exit to the Salikawood if you would like to Save or heal up.
Once you’re ready, make your way back to the Cloister of the Highborn, where we found the Baknamy Merchant. Once here, you’ll need to have one of your characters attack another until their HP is under 10%, which should spawn Deathscythe. If it doesn’t, then bring a second character’s HP to under 10%.
Boss Battle: Deathscythe
Boss: | Deathscythe |
HP: | 125,601 |
Elemental Weakness: | Holy |
Status Effect Weakness: | Silence, Sap, Slow, Lure |
Resistances: | - Dark (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, Earth (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Book of Orgain-Mille Book or Orgain Capricorn Gem |
Heal your characters back up and make sure to have Power Armlets equipped for this fight to prevent Stop. At 50% HP it will become immune to Physical attacks for 2 minutes. You can cast Curaga on it to damage it and it is also susceptible to Blind/Berserk status effects. It shouldn’t give you too much trouble.
For defeating it you’ll receive 2,800 Gil, 2x Hi-Ethers, and a Soul of Thamasa. Turn in the hunt by returning to Popol in the Jajim Bazaar of Nalbina. This is also the final hunt in the Jovy Sidequest. So make sure to find him running around Nalbina after handing this in to trigger a nice little scene for all your hard work.
Optional Esper – Chaos
Since we’ve just taken care of Fury and Humbaba Mistant, we’ve now got the chance to take on the last of the Boss Battles in this area, we’ll also obtain a new Esper for our trouble.
Head to the southern end of the map of the Cloister of the Highborn, you’ll still be here if you just completed the Deathscythe Hunt. Here you’ll find the Door of Despair which opens with your Medallion of Might. Behind it is the Esper, Chaos.
Boss Battle: Chaos
Boss: | Chaos |
HP: | 208,966 |
Elemental Weakness: | Earth |
Status Effect Weakness: | Sap and Slow |
Resistances: | - Wind (Absorb) - N/A (50% Effective) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Dark, and Holy. (Nullified) |
Steal: | Scorpio Gem Elixir High Arcana |
As the fight begins, Chaos will seal your ability to use the ‘Attack’ command. You’ll need to edit your characters Gambits to replace references to ‘Attack’ with Tecknicks. Specifically, Telekinesis works quite well if you have access to it across several characters. Equipping gear to nullify or absorb Wind elemental attacks, and Black Belt’s to prevent Disable will make the fight significantly easier as well.
Start the fight by getting rid of the Chaosjets that surround the Esper, once they are gone you can focus on Chaos. At around 20% HP Chaos begins to hit significantly harder and faster, try to stay on top of healing as much as possible while your fighters continue to chip away at his HP. You can use your Quickenings at the start of the battle to destroy the Chaosjets, or at 20% HP to try and avoid having to deal with the massive damage increase.
Either way, you’ll gain a new Esper once the fight is over.
Battle On The Big Bridge – Gilgamesh Hunt
Use a Save Crystal to Teleport into the Lhusu Mines after you’ve accepted the hunt from Montblanc. Montblanc is also the Petitioner so no need to run off somewhere else to accept the hunt.
In order to fully complete this hunt, you’ll need the Site 11 Key found in the Phon Coast after completing the Antlion Hunt. If you haven’t done that yet, then you’ll need to, before you can complete this hunt.
Once you’ve accepted the hunt and teleported into the Lhusu Mines, if you head west into the Tasche Span, you’ll immediately trigger your first encounter with Gilgamesh.
Boss Battle: Gilgamesh (Tasche Span)
Boss: | Gilgamesh (Tasche Span) |
HP: | 123,103 |
Elemental Weakness: | N/A |
Status Effect Weakness: | Slow and Libra |
Resistances: | - N/A (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, Earth, Dark, and Holy. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Above 60% HP: - Potion - Hi-Potion - 1,000 Gil 40-60% HP: - Potion - 2,000 Gil 20-40% HP: - Genji Shield Below 20% HP: - Genji Gloves |
This first fight shouldn’t give you much trouble. The main objective here is to make sure you steal from him after each of his ‘transitions’. Each time there is a short scene and he draws a different weapon, you gain the ability to steal from him again.
**Your main focus here is to make sure you obtain a full set of Genji Gear from him. Stealing the Genji Shield and Genji Gloves in this first battle is very important.**
The Genji Gloves you can steal below 20% HP from him, in particular, are very powerful and hard to obtain. You want to make sure you obtain this pair.
For the fight consider having multiple people with Thief’s Cuffs steal from him and just one person attacking him afterward to drop him through the next HP threshold. Once you trigger a small scene and he changes weapons, turn off the character’s attack Gambits and resume stealing. Repeat until you have everything, and Gilgamesh will eventually flee deeper into the mines after you beat him.
Continue west following Gilgamesh into the next area.
Site 9
This is where we previously defeated the Antlion, take the south path and the first northern split that it makes. Here you’ll find a large Wrought Iron Gate. If you interact with it you’ll be able to use the Site 11 Key that you picked up in the Phon Coast to open it and continue through.
Site 11
Follow the path north and take the southern branch to a dead-end that contains 2x one-time-only chests. These contain an Orochi and a Zwill Crossblade.
Head back to the split in the path and take the western passage this time. At the end of the passage, you’ll find another chest, this one containing a Golden Skullcap. Grab it and head down the stairs.
Follow the passage north all the way to the area with rail tracks on the ground, here if you head to the western dead-end you’ll find another chest with a Renewing Morion inside. Nearby to this chest, you’ll also find the Gate Switchboard, activate it to open the way forward.
Lasche Span
Grab the one-time-only chest in the center of the bridge for a Dragon Whisker before you continue through the door on the other side.
Site 5
Follow the path here until you reach the four-way intersection. Take the north split to find a chest with a Bone of Byblos inside, this chest may need you to rezone a few times for it to appear.
Head back to the four-way intersection and this time take the path as far south as you can possibly go, in the dead-end here you can find the Lhusu Mines Candle as well as another one-time chest containing Quasimodo Boots.
Head back to the four-way intersection again and this time take the eastern path, take the north split at the next intersection for a chance at a chest in the small area just before the exit. This chest can hold the Arcturus Gun.
Head back to the three-way intersection just before the Arcturus chest, and this time go east. Follow the path south until it trys to turn west, here you can find another one-time chest containing a set of Glimmering Robes.
Grab all the treasures and then head through either of the exits to the next area.
Site 6 South
The first thing you need to do is head to the northern section of this area, what looks like a three-way split actually hides a passage north that goes off the map. If you follow the passage you’ll arrive at Site 6 North. Continue to follow the path to find two chests, one containing a Whale Whisker and another containing a Maximillian. The colorful chests in here are a strong version of the Mimic enemy.
Head back into Site 6 South and take the eastern passage at the top of the map to reach a dead-end holding a chest containing a Magepower Shishak.
Follow the path south now and you can find a chest containing Wyrmfire Shot and another chest containing Germinas Boots in the two small areas immediately before taking the exit.
Staging Area
Make sure to grab the one-time treasure in here containing Scathe Magick. Save your game and heal up before heading through the door to face Gilgamesh again.
Site 7
Once you enter you’ll immediately trigger your next battle with Gilgamesh.
Boss Battle: Gilgamesh (Site 7)
Boss: | Gilgamesh (Site 7) |
HP: | 473,246 |
Elemental Weakness: | N/A |
Status Effect Weakness: | Libra |
Resistances: | - N/A (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, Earth, Dark, and Holy. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Above 60% HP: - Hi-Potion - X-Potion - 3,000 Gil 40-60% HP: - Hi-Potion - 4,000 Gil 20-40% HP: - Genji Helm Below 20% HP: - Genji Armor |
Once again Gilgamesh can be stolen from multiple times, each time he triggers a small cutscene and changes weapons. Whenever this happens be sure to turn off your attack Gambits and focus on stealing until you have all of his Genji Gear.
In this fight Gilgamesh gains access to several new and powerful spells. Focus at the start on getting rid of Gilgamesh’s dog, Enkidu. Below 20% HP Gilgamesh will use the ability Perfect Defence to make himself immune to damage, and stealing. You’ll need to survive the 2 minutes for it to wear off before you can steal the last of the Genji items, and finally defeat him.
After the fight you’ll be able to access the chest behind where the fight took place, open it to receive the Masamune.
For defeating him both times, you can return to Montblanc for 10,000 Gil and the Excalipur weapon. While you’re there be sure to grab the new Hunts from him as well, The Seer and Ixion Hunts. You should also have several new Bounty Board Hunts as well. We’ll start with one of the Bounty Board Hunts.
Paying for the Past – Catoblepas Hunt
Accept the Hunt and make your way to Jahara and speak to War-Chief Supinelo in the Lull of the Land to accept it.
To find this mark you need to travel to where we found the Thief’s Cuffs in the Zertinan Caverns. Head to the Save Crystal in The Undershore area of the Zertinan Caverns, from here cross the ‘hidden’ path over to where we found the chest with the Thief’s Cuffs. From here take the nearby exit into the east section of the Hourglass Basin. Toward the back, you’ll find our Mark.
Boss Battle: Catoblepas
Boss: | Catoblepas |
HP: | 187,991 |
Elemental Weakness: | Holy |
Status Effect Weakness: | Sleep, Blind, Slow, Libra |
Resistances: | - Dark (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, Earth. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Hi-Potion Beastlord Hide Gemini Gem |
Make sure your tank is wearing heavy armor and is boosted with Protect and Bubble. Catoblepas hits very hard with his Physical attacks. Dispel Catoblpas whenever it tries to buff itself with Protect and the fight shouldn’t take too long.
Return to Jahara and speak to War-Chief Supinelu to claim your rewards; 3,200 Gil, a Volcano, and 1x Arctic Wind.
The Black Sorcerer – Piscodaemon Hunt
Accept the Hunt and make your way to Mt Bur-Omisace to the Temple Grounds area. Speak to an Acolyte here near the exit to the next area called Ivaness to confirm the Hunt.
To reach the Piscodaemon you’ll need to travel back to Giruvegan and make your way back through the Gate of Fire, the Gate of Water, past the Trimahla Water-Steps, the Aadha Water-Steps, and the Haalmikah Water-Steps. You’ll find the Piscodaemon here in this area.
Boss Battle: Piscodaemon
Boss: | Piscodaemon |
HP: | 49,660 |
Elemental Weakness: | N/A |
Status Effect Weakness: | Blind, Immobilize, Slow, Libra. |
Resistances: | - N/A (Absorb) - Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Wind, Earth, Dark, and Holy. (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Potion Reflectga Mote White Robes |
Equip the party with Black Belts to prevent its Disable status. Try to take out any nearby foes before engaging it, and start the battle off by Dispelling its buffs. It doesn’t have much HP considering how late in the game we are, so you shouldn’t have any issues taking it down.
Return to Mt Bur-Omisace to claim your rewards; 3,800 Gil, Dark Shot, and a Scathe Mote.
Visitor On Deck – Deathgaze Hunt
Accept the Hunt and head for the Aerodrome in Rabanastre. Here you’ll need to find the Petitioner, a child who’ll be wearing a white cloak. Once you formally accept the Hunt, speak to him again. He’ll likely let you know he didn’t see Deathgaze the last time he flew.
From here you’ll need to book a Leisure Craft to any other destination, you’ll have a small chance that Deathgaze will appear on each flight that you take. If it does not appear, then find the Boy again at the Aerodrome you landed in and speak to him again. Speaking to him after an unsuccessful flight will boost the chances of the Deathgaze appearing on the next one.
Keep booking flights and finding the Boy afterward until he lets you know that “I heard it roar last time… it must’ve been close!” Book another flight and this time you’ll be asked to help out with the battle on the Air Deck.
Boss Battle: Deathgaze
Boss: | Deathgaze |
HP: | 184,000 |
Elemental Weakness: | Earth |
Status Effect Weakness: | Reverse, Silence, Sap |
Resistances: | - Wind (Absorb) - N/A (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Phoenix Down Charger Barding Emperor Scale |
Make sure to focus on getting Silence inflicted on Deathgaze first, this will prevent his ability to cast numerous High-Level Magicks on your party. Switch in your Black Mage and have them spam Bio until Deathgaze is inflicted with Sap as well. This will put a constant drain on its HP during the fight which is really useful.
During the fight, Deathgaze will switch between a Physical Paling making it immune to Physical Damage and a Magick Paling making it immune to Magicks. Adjust your team as the palings change so that you can keep doing damage to it.
**Deathgaze is a source of the rare material called “Emperor Scale” you need 2x to be able to purchase a great weapon from the Bazaar. In order to farm it, you will need to steal from the Deathgaze and then zone two areas back and return to try again until you have acquired both Emperor Scales that you need. What makes this harder is that if the Deathgaze’s Physical Paling is up, you’ll need to wait for it to switch to the Magick one before you can steal. This may mean you’ll need to fight it for a bit each time. Even though this is a painful method to farm the item, it is still much better than trying to farm Emperor Scales in the Zertinan Caverns. later**
After the fight you’ll trigger a small scene and be able to rest in your room to complete the trip. Speak to the Boy at the next Aerodrome to receive your reward; 3,400 Gil and 2x Elixir’s.
A Wild Stench – Wild Malboro Hunt
Accept the Hunt and head over to the Eruyt Village area called the Spiritwood to find the Petitioner, Rena.
The Wild Malboro appears in the same spot that we fought the Rafflesia in the Feywood area called the Redolent Glade. Heading over there by teleporting to Giruvegan is likely your quickest option.
Boss Battle: Wild Malboro
Boss: | Wild Malboro |
HP: | 110,842 |
Elemental Weakness: | Wind |
Status Effect Weakness: | Blind, Silence, Oil, Slow, Libra |
Resistances: | - Earth (Absorb) - N/A (50% Effective) - N/A (Nullified) |
Steal: | Malboro Flower Foul Liquid Virgo Gem |
Set your entire party up with Esuna and Remedy Gambits for this fight. Try to also make sure that your party does not bunch up, you don’t want everyone hit with its breath attacks at the same time.
Equip a Black Mage with a Gambit to target wind-weak enemies with Aeroga, make sure to also equip the mage with either the Cloud Staff or Staff of the Magi to boost the damage that your wind spells do. Get Faith on the Black Mage as well.
As long as you can keep the Malboro away from your Black Mage and keep the Aeroga’s firing, then the battle should be over soon.
Return to the Eruyt Village for your reward of: 4,600 Gil and Euclid’s Sextant.
Make sure that prior to the next Hunt, you’ve returned to Montblanc for all your level-up rewards. He’ll also let you know that your Rank in the Clan has increased. If you’ve completed all the Hunts so far then you’ll now be able to purchase the Green Magick called Reverse from the Clan Provisioner. Grab it before taking on the next fight.
Who’s The Strongest? – Pylraster Hunt
Accept the Hunt and make your way over to Balfonheim Port’s Saccio Lane. Here you’ll find the Petitioner, Rikken. Speak with him to formally accept the Hunt. You may need to speak to him several times to get him to talk about the Hunt.
You don’t get much info on where to find Pylraster, but all you really need to do is teleport over to Pharos and take the exit back out to the area called They Who Thirst Not. You’ll find Pylraster waiting immediately outside.
Boss Battle: Pylraster

Pylraster has an immense amount of HP for you to get through. He also inflicts heavy damage. You’re going to want a Tank with Decoy keeping his attention for this fight, the easiest thing to do is to cast the Reverse Green Magick on your Tank so that Pylraster’s damage heals them instead. Then it’s just a case of keeping both Decoy and Reverse active while you have a Black Mage, Faith-Boosted and equipped with a Flame Staff, cast Firaga on Pylraster.
You’ll need to turn off any status-curing Gambits, as these will target the Reverse status. Also if you don’t keep Decoy on the Tank and Pylraster attacks others, then if a Curaga is triggered, it will inflict massive damage on your Tank. So be careful.
Return to Balfonheim to claim your prize; 8,000 Gil, a Grand Mace, and a Scathe Mote.
Wyrm Wrath’s Renewal – Fafnir Hunt
Grab the Hunt and head over to Mt Bur-Omisace. Go to the Temple Approach area and look for a Viera called Relj, speak to her to formally accept the Hunt.
Fafnir will only appear in the Silverflow’s End during a Blizzard. Accepting the Hunt will make a Blizzard throughout Paramina Rift as long as you don’t enter the Frozen Brook area. So avoid that area, and instead make your way to Silverflow’s End. If for whatever reason you don’t have the Blizzard weather, you can zone between the Stilshrine of Miriam and here to try and trigger it. Once you’ve got the weather right you’ll find Fafnir waiting for you.

Be aware that this is considered the strongest of the regular Marks in the game, so this won’t be a quick fight. You’re going to want everyone set up with Remedy and Esuna Gambits to counter the many status effects he can inflict. You’ll want to try and make sure that at least one character is immune to Sleep and another is immune to Stop. Doing this will mean the entire party shouldn’t be inflicted with the status at the same time. Nishijin Belt’s prevent Sleep and Power Armlets prevent Stop.
Your main damage dealer for this fight is likely to be a Black Mage again, equip them with either the Cloud Staff or Staff of the Magi to boost their Thundaga and keep the Faith Status on them. The whole party is going to need Protect, Shell, Bubble, and Regen status as well. You’ll likely need to split buffing between two characters to keep them all active for the fight. You’re also going to need Gambits for whoever is not casting spells, to use Hi-Ethers on the other characters if their MP falls below say 30-40% just to be safe. Relying on Charge is not advised. Also, set Curaja to trigger at anything below 80-90% HP. You want your entire party constantly at full HP, rebuffing a fallen character will take a lot of time.
Once the battle begins, hit Fafnir with Dispel to remove its reflect status. The first half of the battle will just be you managing his physical attacks and status effects on the party. After 50% HP he’ll begin to cast Shock and Scourge spells which can be devastating. Keep your Buffs and Healing up, so long as you are above level 50, ideally closer to 60, then he should eventually go down.
With the battle won, return to Mt Bur-Omisace and speak to Relj again. She’ll reward you with; 7,000 Gil, Assassin’s Arrows, and a Teleport Stone.
