Hyrule Castle – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Hyrule Castle – Zelda Ocarina of Time

Hyrule Field

After running away from Saria with your new Ocarina, you’ll arrive in Hyrule Field. Head forward to be stopped by an Owl, who’d like to let you know what’s going on. The Owl’s name is Kaepora Gaebora, and he’s going to appear in a number of places that we’ll visit.

Be very careful as you go through this dialogue with him. At the very end, he asks you if you’d like him to repeat everything he just said again, and your cursor rests on “Yes”. If you just button mash through this conversation you’ll get stuck in an infinite loop.

Tell him “No” and he’ll fly off. From here we need to head north towards Hyrule Castle. It’s unlikely that you’ll make it before nightfall, when they raise the Drawbridge, preventing access to the town. So wait on the road just outside the Drawbridge. If you wait on the grass you’ll have to deal with a continuous stream of Stalchildren (skeletons) that are summoned to attack you during the night.

Once it’s daylight again the Drawbridge will lower and you can make your way into the town.

Hyrule Castle Town Market

Once you head into the city you’ll run past a Guardhouse on the northside of this first screen. You can head in here to smash some pots to gain Rupee’s if you ever find yourself running low. Exit and re-enter to have everything respawn as well.

Gold Skulltula #4 – Hyrule Castle Guardhouse

Inside the Guardhouse with the infinite spawning pots is our next Gold Skulltula. At the very back of the room, you’ll see a couple of large wooden crates, you can actually roll directly into these to bust them open. Do this and one will reveal the next Gold Skulltula.

Once you’ve gotten the Gold Skulltula, exit the Guardhouse and continue to the left to enter the Market. Here you’re first stop needs to be the building with the Bullseye above its door, this is the Shooting Gallery.

Speak to the owner of the Shooting Gallery to have the rules explained to you. Basically, he’s going to have 10 Rupees appear as targets, if you can shoot all 10 of them, he’ll give you a prize. We need to do this at least once, as the first prize is an upgrade to your Slingshot capacity. The upgraded Slingshot Bag will allow you to hold 40 bullets for your Slingshot at a time. After you have the bag you’ll simply win Rupees so don’t waste your time completing it more than once.

Once you have the upgrade, head out of the Shop and speak to the young girl by the fountain in the Market. This is Malon from Lon Lon Ranch. We’ll see her again in a second. Take the exit towards Hyrule Castle when you’re ready to continue.

Hyrule Castle

Head forward to trigger another interaction with our kind friend the Owl. He’ll let you know you are indeed going the right way.

Gold Skulltula #5 – Hyrule Castle Owl Tree

Once the Owl is done with his story, head forward and you’ll find a lone tree here in this area. Roll Link so that he collides with the tree and you’ll knock down our next Gold Skulltula (#5).

With that done, you’ll find a wall of climbable vines nearby. If you spoke to Malon in the Castle Market, then she should be standing near it as well. If she isn’t then take the exit back into the Market and speak to her if she is still there by the fountain. Head back in the direction of Hyrule Castle again. This time Malon should appear near the vines.

Speak to her and she’ll explain her father was supposed to be delivering Milk to the Castle and hasn’t returned yet. She fears that he’s fallen asleep. So she gives you an Egg. Make sure to put this Egg on one of your action buttons, in the original N64 version they were your “C” buttons.

Climb the vines and head across to where the Locked Gate is, now that you’re higher you can jump off the cliff at the end and be on the other side of the Locked Gate.

If you look ahead on the path you’ll see some Soldiers, if you get too close they’ll arrest you and send you back to the start of the area. Avoid this first set by going off-road and heading up the slight incline of the hill to the left of this Guard.

You’ll see another Guard up here on the grass, stay behind him and keep off the road to continue.

Instead of heading directly for the front of Hyrule Castle, continue past it and to the wall on the western side of the map. Here you’ll find more climbable vines.

Head up the vines and continue on. Jump down and into the Hyrule Castle Moat, from here swim around to the east. Once the Moat turns north, you’ll find a small section you can climb onto and get up out of the Moat. Climb out and continue north to find some Crates of Lon Lon Ranch Milk nearby…

Blocking our ability to grab and move the large Crates is a sleeping man. He is Talon, Malon’s father. Now depending on how long you took to get here, the Egg that Malon gave you might have hatched. If not you might need to just wait around until Dawn the next day for the Egg to hatch into a Chicken.

Once it hatches, you can use it near Talon to wake him up. He’ll promptly panic and run off to find Malon.

With Talon out of the way, you can now grab and move the large Crates here by the Castle Moat. Push the first so that it falls into the water, and then push the second one so that it ends up directly on top of the first. Climb atop them to get enough height to make the jump over to the small gap across the way. Jump over and crawl inside to continue.

You can only sneak through the Castle Courtyard during the daytime. At night when you crawl through the hole, a couple of guards will be waiting for you on the other side to escort you out. Simply wait for it to change back to daytime and then crawl through to continue.

Castle Courtyard

This portion of the Castle Courtyard is full of Guards waiting to arrest Link. If you get caught you’ll be sent back to the beginning and be forced to start over again.

You can sneak behind the Guards or anywhere they aren’t looking, but don’t stand next to them or in their line of sight.

As you go, try and keep whatever scenery items are in the area between you and guards. Once you’ve cleared all the obstacles you’ll arrive in a large section of the garden. Here you’ll find Princess Zelda on the opposite side of the area. Speak to the Princess to learn about the history of Hyrule and about the gathering darkness that she wants to defeat.

After the conversation, she’ll give you a letter bearing her signature to help you on your new quest to collect the three Spiritual Stones that she spoke about. Head for the exit to the Garden, you’ll find a woman waiting here for you, this is Sheik. She’ll teach you a song to prove your connection to the Royal Family called “Zelda’s Lullaby”. She’ll then Teleport you back out to the front of Hyrule Castle. Before she leaves she’ll mention that Kakariko Village should be your next stop. So that’s where we’ll be heading next, as well as picking up some of the items that are scattered about the world.

Kakariko Village – Zelda Ocarina of Time

Kakariko Village

Make your way back out of the Castle and out of the Town Market as well. On the map, Kakariko Village is to the northeast. You’ll need to cross a bridge and then head up a set of stairs to enter the town.

Graveyard

Before we continue on to Death Mountain there are a number of optional bits we can take care of, the first is in the Graveyard area of Kakariko Village. When you enter the Village, make your way through and out the exit on the southeast of the map.

Head to the very back of the Graveyard, the eastern side on the map. here you’ll find three large Graves with a Triforce roughly on the ground in front of the middle Grave. Stand on the Triforce and play Zelda’s Lullaby on your Ocarina. A bolt of Lightning will strike the Grave and open a hole in the ground. Jump in to continue.

Royal Family’s Tomb

Inside the hole, you’ll have entered the Royal Family’s Tomb. Here in the first room, you’ll find several bats flying about and also perched on the walls. Shoot them with your Slingshot to open the locked door. Head through to the next area.

Here you’ll be introduced to a new enemy, Redeads, these enemies will paralyze Link if he moves too close while they move. Avoid them by moving behind them and getting away as quickly as possible into the next room.

Here in this final room, approach the large stone and inspect it to have Navi read it to you. From here you’ll learn the Sun’s Song, our next tune for the Ocarina, and an incredibly useful tool for us. The Sun’s Song is actually able to advance time for us. So if it’s Daytime and you play the song it will become Night and vice versa. It also has the ability to stun the Redead enemies.

From here make your way back out of the Royal Tomb, just backtrack to the entrance and head back out into the Graveyard.

Heart Piece #1 – Kakariko Grave Redead

Once your back out into the Graveyard, make your way to the row of Graves in front of the Royal Graves. The fourth Grave in the row can be pulled back to reveal a hole you can drop down into.

Inside here you’ll be faced with a Redead to defeat, simply play the Sun’s Song on your Ocarina to stun it, then head behind it and slash it until it falls. Now that he is gone, stand where he was and play the Sun’s Song again. This will reveal a chest holding our first Piece of Heart. If you collect 4 of these Heart Pieces, you’ll extend Link’s life bar at the top of the screen by one Heart.

From here we can repeat this process on a grave in the first row of the Graveyard, with three flowers in front of it, pull it back to reveal another hole to jump down. In here you’ll find a chest waiting ahead of you, open it to get a free Hylian Shield. This will be our primary shield much later in the game, and will even come in handy in the Dungeon we’re about to head to. Usually, you have to buy one from the Castle Town Markets for 300 Rupees so a free one is a steal… Literally.

Heart Piece #2 – Kakariko Grave Digging Tour

To obtain another Heart Piece while you’re in the Graveyard, you’ll need to either wait for Nighttime or play the Sun’s Song so that it changes to Nighttime. You’ll notice at night that Dampe the Gravekeeper walks around the Graveyard. If you wait for him to be standing on top of one of the bare patches of soil along his route, you can speak to him and pay him 10 Rupees to dig in the soil for you.

With each dig that he does for you, there is a 10% chance of him digging up a Heart Piece (#2) for us. Keep going until you get it and then exit the Graveyard.

Kakariko Village – Empty Bottle #1

Back in Kakariko Village, you’ll find a woman standing near an empty Pen close to the exit to the Graveyard. Talk to her to find out that her Cucco’s (Chickens) have all escaped and she needs you to track them down and toss them back into the Pen. You’ll find these Cucco’s scattered about the Village, there are a total of 7 of these birds. Also, be very careful not to attack them, Cucco’s in Zelda games have a habit of going berserk and murdering you if you do.

The First Cucco

The first Cucco is nearby to the Cucco Lady. Look between her and the entrance to the Graveyard.

The Second Cucco

Grab one of the other Cucco’s and jump from the higher ground on the unfinished building. Holding the Cucco will allow you to ‘glide’. Aim for the ledge next to the Skulltula House on the southwest of the Village. Here you’ll need to toss the Cucco’s both down off the ledge so you can then put them in the Pen.

The Third Cucco

Near the entrance to Kakariko Village, you’ll find a Cucco wandering around, grab it and return it to the Pen.

The Fourth Cucco

By the stairs leading to the northern area exit of Kakariko, you’ll find some crates, roll into them to reveal a Cucco.

The Fifth Cucco

Near the northern exit of the Village, head up the very top to where the Guard is standing by the locked gate. Here you’ll find the fifth Cucco wandering around.

The Sixth and Seventh Cucco’s

The last two Cucco’s are tricky. You’ll find them both together in the Northeast section of Kakariko. To get to them you’ll need to grab one of the Cucco’s and while holding it head up the stairs on the east side of the Village to where the entrance to the Windmill is. From here you need to run at an angle so that land on top of the corner section of the fence across from you. If you angle it properly Link will ‘just’ make the jump.

Toss your Cucco back down into the main Village area for you to collect later. Head down the stairs and collect Cucco #6 who is down here. Toss him over the fence for later retrieval as well.

Down on this lower level, you’ll find a ladder leading up next to the large fence. Climb it up to the area around the Windmill. Head around the back of the Windmill and over to the other side to find the last Cucco. Grab him and either toss him down or use him to glide towards the Pen.

Grab the last two Cucco’s you threw as well and that should be all seven. Speak to the Cucco Lady again for your prize, an Empty Bottle. Which is actually far more valuable than it sounds.

Graveyard

With the Bottle collected, make your way back to the Graveyard. At the entrance of the Graveyard area, you’ll find a bunch of bushes that you can slash for Rupees. There is a rock in amongst the bushes which hide some Bugs underneath, lift the rock and use your Empty Bottle on the bugs to collect them in the Bottle.

These Bugs can be dropped into soft soil locations to reveal Gold Skulltulas. Once you empty the Bugs onto the Soft Soil, you can actually immediately use the Empty Bottle on the Bugs you just released to recapture one and still have the Gold Skulltula pop out. This trick will effectively give you infinite Bugs, no need to hunt around for some every time you need them now.

Gold Skulltula #6 – Kakariko Graveyard Soft Soil

On the north side of the Graveyard area, you’ll find a plot of Soft Soil, drop your Bugs in the Soil to make a Gold Skulltula (#6) pop out. Be sure to recollect some of the Bugs immediately after you release them as well.

Once you’ve got that, head back to the main Village. You want it to be nighttime for this section so play the Sun Song to change the time if you need. Here in Kakariko Village at night, we can find a whole bunch of Gold Skulltulas.

Gold Skulltula #7 – Kakariko Village Unfinished Building

For the first one, head up to the half-finished construction site in the middle of the Village. Here at night, on the back of the brick stack in the middle, you’ll find a Gold Skulltula (#7).

Gold Skulltula #8 – House of Skulltula Outside

For the next Gold Skulltula, you’ll find it on the backside of the House of Skulltula, in the southwest of Kakariko Village.

Gold Skulltula #9 – Kakariko Village Tree

In the center of the Village is a lone tree, just like the tree near Hyrule Castle, if you roll into it a Gold Skulltula will drop down from the top of the tree.

Gold Skulltula #10 – Kakariko Village Lookout Tower

Head to the upper level of Kakariko and you’ll find Gold Skulltula (#10) on the ladder leading to the top of the Lookout Tower. Shoot it with your Slingshot and then climb up to collect the Token.

Gold Skulltula #11 – Kakariko Village Guard

Head to the northern side of the Village, up to where the Guard is standing by the Closed Gate. On the house nearest him, you’ll find a Gold Skulltula on the wall facing the Closed Gate.

Now that we’ve got those collected, you can actually enter the Skulltula House here in Kakariko for a prize. It’s a house in the southwest portion of the Village. Head inside and you’ll find that one of the residents has been cured of his spider curse. As a reward, he’ll give you an Adult Wallet. This lets Link hold up to 200 Rupees.

Hyrule Field

With all of that completed, make your way out of the Village into Hyrule Field. From here you want to make your way to the small cluster of buildings in the center of Hyrule Field, this is Lon Lon Ranch. We met two of the residents earlier, Talon and Malon.

Lon Lon Ranch – Zelda Ocarina of Time

Lon Lon Ranch

Once you enter Lon Lon Ranch in the middle of Hyrule Field you need to make sure it is Daytime, to begin with, play the Sun’s Song if it isn’t. Head into the first room on the left to find our old pal Talon, sleeping again. Talk to him to wake him up and agree to play his game.

Talon’s Cucco’s and Empty Bottle #2

He has selected three of his Cucco’s as ‘special’ he will release them among all the other Cucco’s in the room and your job is to find them by picking them up. The easiest way to do this is to start picking up Cucco’s and any that are not the ‘special’ birds, should be tossed into one of the corners of the room. Preferably in the back between the stairs and table to trap them there for a short period. This will allow you to thin the numbers of Cucco’s as you search.

If you find all three of the Cucco’s within the time limit you’ll receive a Bottle of Lon Lon Milk for your trouble. This gives you the second Empty Bottle. The liquid it contains is Lon Lon Milk, this can be drunk twice to restore 5 hearts each time you drink. Early in the game, this is a valuable source of healing, but once Link’s Hearts pass about 7-8 it becomes far less effective to keep on you.

Gold Skulltula #12 – Lon Lon Ranch Tree

Exit the room with Talon and his Cucco’s and head out towards the Horse Corral, take an immediate left as you pass the end of the building and you’ll find a tree. Roll into the tree to have Gold Skulltula #12 drop down from it.

Epona’s Song

Make your way into the center of the Corral to find Malon, talk to her a few times and she’ll try to introduce you to her horse friend Epona. Epona will promptly run away from you. Speak to her until she mentions a song her mother wrote, and then pull out your Ocarina. She’ll then teach you Epona’s Song.

Later in the game, Epona’s Song can be used to summon Epona to your location. Right now though, you can use it while standing next to any cow in the game to get a free refill of Lon Lon Milk.

Gold Skulltula #13 – Lon Lon Ranch Nighttime Back of Corral

To clean up the last few goodies in the area, you’ll need to play the Sun’s Song and make it nighttime.

Go around the outside of the Corral towards the southeast to find Gold Skulltula #13 on the back of one of the sections of the Corral. You’ll only be able to reach it on the OUTSIDE of the Corral.

Heart Piece #3 – Lon Lon Ranch Warehouse

From Gold Skulltula #13, continue around the outside of the Corral until you reach the southwest area of the Ranch. Here you’ll find a large Silo you can enter.

Inside the Silo you’ll find a number of crates that can be pushed and pulled to reveal a small hole in the wall in the back corner. Crawl through to find Heart Piece #3 inside. Remember you only need 4 to gain an extra heart on Link’s HP bar.

Leave Lon Lon Ranch for now and make your way towards Gerudo Valley next. Exit Lon Lon Ranch to enter Hyrule Field and head west from the exit of Lon Lon Ranch. You’ll find a pathway leading out a western exit from Hyrule Field, this leads to Gerudo Valley.

Gerudo Valley – Zelda Ocarina of Time

Gerudo Valley

Here you’ll need some bugs for an upcoming Gold Skulltula. If you’ve been using my trick, then you should already have some from a previous Soil Patch. If not, when you first enter Gerudo Valley you’ll find a few rocks on the ground to the right. Lift the rocks to have some bugs scurry away from you, quickly use one of your empty bottles to snag one.

Gold Skulltula #14 – Gerudo Valley Soft Soil

Head towards the bridge in the middle of Gerudo Valley and grab the stray Cucco along the way. While holding it jump off of the edge of the bridge heading north. From here you’ll be able to safely glide with the Cucco down to a large ledge below.

Down here you’ll find a Gerudo woman, a cow, and a patch of Soft Soil. Take out your bugs and deposit them into the Soft Soil to have Gold Skulltula #14 pop out of the ground. Remember to quickly scoop back up one of the bugs into your now Empty Bottle. This will allow you to continue to use the same set of bugs again another time.

Heart Piece #4 – Gerudo Valley Behind Waterfall

Jump off of the ledge you’re now on and make your way to the base of the Waterfall. Behind the Waterfall, you’ll find a ladder leading up. Climb it all the way to the top to find a small alcove with Heart Piece #4 inside. This will complete our first 4 pieces of Heart and add another one to Link’s HP Bar.

Heart Piece #5 – Cucco Box Glide

There is one more Heart Piece to grab in Gerudo Valley, although first, you’ll need to get back to the upper level. To do this you need to follow the stream all the way to the end, this will pop you out in Lake Hylia.

Head north and get out of the water when you can and take the north exit back to Hyrule Field. Once you’re back in Hyrule Field, make your way to Gerudo Valley again.

In Gerudo Valley grab the Cucco once more and this time jump off of the southside of the Bridge in the center. You’ll be able to glide over to a small outcropping on the western wall with a Box on it. Once you land here, simply roll into the Box to burst it and reveal Heart Piece #5.

From here dive down into the water again and swim for Lake Hylia, we’ve got a few things we can tidy up there as well.

Lake Hylia – Zelda Ocarina of Time

Lake Hylia

There are a couple of ways to enter Lake Hylia. You can leave the Gerudo Valley, back out onto Hyrule Field, and take the southmost exit on the map to arrive in Lake Hylia. Or you can dive off into the river that runs below Gerudo Valley and follow the stream down into Lake Hylia.

The first thing we need to do is head along the bank of the water, over to where you can see two Scarecrows in two fields. The Scarecrow on the lower field will tell you that he never forgets a tune once he’s heard it, and will happily listen if you want to play your Ocarina for him. Pull out the Fairy Ocarina and make up a melody to play for him. Personally, I’m fond of something easy to remember, it needs to be eight notes long, so I use the melody (left, up, right, down, left, up, right, down). It’s basically Zelda’s Lullaby with an additional note. This makes it easy to remember, which is key for later on. You’ll need to be able to remember this song later. So write it down if you need to as well. Those eight notes will eventually become the Scarecrows Song.

Gold Skulltula #15 – Lake Hylia Soft Soil

Gold Skulltula #15 is found by the Lakeside Research Laboratory in Lake Hylia. Outside of it, you’ll find a patch of Soft Soil. Drop some bugs into the soil to reveal the Gold Skulltula. If you need Bugs you can find some in the grass near the two Scarecrows.

Gold Skulltula #16 – Lake Hylia Island

Gold Skulltula #16 is found on the small island out in the southeast portion of Lake Hylia. You’ll need to swim out here, at nighttime, to find the Gold Skulltula on the side of one of the pillars on this platform. You can use the Sun’s Song to make it nighttime if you need.

Heart Piece #6 – Lake Hylia Fishing Reward

The last thing for us to do in Lake Hylia is to visit the Fishing Pond. Along the east side of the map, you can swim over to a door on a little island. This leads to Lake Hylia’s Fishing Pond. Here you can borrow a rod and try to catch some fish.

To begin fishing, pay the man behind the counter his 20 Rupees. There is no time limit, luckily, for this game. The aim is to catch the largest fish in the pond, so make sure to stay on the outside of the water, as running through it and splashing will scatter the fish and make it much harder to locate the big one. The biggest fish always starts toward the very center of the pond near a piece of log that is rising out of the water.

Catching a fish that is at least 10 pounds or more will allow you to speak to the man behind the counter to claim another Heart Piece (#6) as your reward.

The Lost Woods – Zelda Ocarina of Time

Lost Woods

Now that we’re done in Lake Hylia, you can take the exit back out in Hyrule Field. From here we need to make our way back to the Kokiri Forest.

Gold Skulltula #17

Take the eastern exit from Hyrule Field back into the Kokiri Forest, once inside the village, play the Sun’s Song to make it nighttime. Behind the house, in the southwest of the village, you’ll find Gold Skulltula #17. This is the house of the Know It All Brothers. Defeat it and then target the Token and use a jumping attack to collect it.

Next, we need to make our way into the Lost Woods. From the entrance to the village, you want to head north. Climb the ledge behind Mido’s house and continue to climb up until you reach a large opening that looks like a hollowed log. Head through to arrive in the Lost Woods.

Each section of the Lost Woods typically has four exits you can take. Most of the exits will simply return you to the entrance of the Lost Woods. The key to being able to progress is to listen as you approach each doorway for the Lost Woods melody. If the door you’re facing leads further into the woods, the melody will increase in volume. If it decreases in volume, then you’re about to be returned to the entrance.

From the entrance take the first right to arrive in an area with a target on a tree ahead of you. Use your Slingshot to score three bullseyes in a row, 100 points each, and a Deku Scrub will emerge and hand you an upgrade for your Slingshot Bullet Bag. This will increase the number of shots you can hold for your Slingshot.

Heart Piece #7

Jump down from the ledge where you hit the target and continue to the right. Here you’ll find a couple of tree stumps, stand on the closest one to trigger a couple of Skull Kids to appear with musical instruments in front of you. Take out your Ocarina and they’ll ask if you want to play a game.

If you can repeat back to them the notes that they play you’ll earn Heart Piece #7.

Now that you’ve got the Seed Bag upgrade and Heart Piece, it’s time to make our way through into the Sacred Forest Meadow on the other side of the Lost Woods. From the first screen that you enter the Lost Woods, the correct path to reach the other side is: Right, Left, Right, Left, Forward, Left, and Right. Take the doorways in order and you should appear in the next area, the Sacred Forest Meadow.

Sacred Forest Meadow

As you enter the Meadow, you’ll trigger a Wolfos to appear in front of you. Keep your shield up and wait for an opening to hit it after it attacks you.

Defeating the Wolfos will lower the bars for us to continue. This next section is littered with Deku Scrubs that will shoot seeds at you. For the most part, you can simply run past them while keeping your shield up. The maze here is actually rather straightforward, simply follow the path and make your way to the far side of the map.

You’ll eventually arrive at a large set of stairs, head up them and use your Shield to get past the Mad Scrubs that are here in this hallway.

On the other side of the hallway, you’ll find Saria sitting on a stump playing her Ocarina. Turns out she’s the source of the Lost Woods melody.

After a brief chat, she’ll teach us Saria’s Song, the melody of the Lost Woods.

Head back down the path to leave the Lost Woods, you’ll notice a ladder at the base of the stairs that you may have missed on the way in. This will allow you to climb on top of the maze portion of the Meadow and skip needing to deal with the Scrubs. In the center of the maze is a hole that leads to a Fairy Fountain if you want to grab a fairy in a bottle as well.

Head back into the Lost Woods and meet our Owl friend again. After he’s done chatting, deliberately take one of the incorrect doorways to return to the start of the Lost Woods.

Heart Piece #8

From the start of the Lost Woods, take a left to arrive in an area with a Stump lit up on the ground. Hop onto it and pull out the Ocarina for a Skull Kid to appear. Play Saria’s Song for him and you’ll receive Heart Piece #8 for your trouble.

Gold Skulltula #18

From where we got the Heart Piece, take another left to arrive in a long area with a bridge in the middle. Here as you enter you’ll find a patch of Soft Soil, drop in some Bugs to reveal Gold Skulltula #18. Be sure to quickly scoop some of them up after you drop them so that you can use them again.

Jump down to the lower level of this area and go to the far side to find a Business Scrub. Reflect his shot back at him and you’ll have a chance to purchase an upgrade for your Deku Stick Capacity from him.

Return to the start of the Lost Woods and we’ll grab two more Gold Skulltula’s.

Gold Skulltula #19

To reach this Gold Skulltula you’ll need to reach the small meadow. Take the following path from the beginning of the Lost Woods: Right, Left, Right, Left, and Left. Here you’ll find some Soft Soil to drop Bugs into, which will reveal Gold Skulltula #19.

Make your way out of the Lost Woods now and return to the Kokiri Forest.

Gold Skulltula #20

In the northeast area of Kokiri Forest outside one of the houses, you’ll find another patch of Soft Soil. Drop some Bugs inside to reveal Gold Skulltula #20.

We’re done here for now. Take the exit back out into Hyrule Field, and make your way over to the Hyrule Castle Town Market.

Hyrule Castle Market – Night

Hyrule Castle Market At Night – Zelda Ocarina of Time

As you enter the Market area, you’ll need to play the Sun’s Song to make it nighttime. All of the people will disappear and instead, a bunch of dogs will roam the area.

If you have Link approach any of the dogs, they will follow him. One of the dogs in this area is lost and is being looked for by its owner. Being careful not to run into any of the dogs, make your way to the Blue Market Stand, with the guy in the lit window above. Just below him, you should see a White Puppy, this is Little Richard. Get him to follow you by running into him and then take one of the exits on the right side of the Market to arrive in the Back Streets.

In the Back Streets, take the door that is directly opposite the camera, (straight ahead, not the left one).

Heart Piece #9

Inside the door, you’ll encounter a woman in a blue dress who was looking for her Lost Puppy. Speak to her and as long as Little Richard is still with you, she’ll hand over a Heart Piece (#9) and thank you for returning her lost dog.

From here you’ll need to play the Sun’s Song to leave the Market. Head back out into Hyrule Field and make your way over to Kakariko Village.

If you’ve followed along so far, then we have 20 Gold Skulltula Tokens and can claim the next reward at the House of Skulltula. This one is the Stone of Agony (or Shard of Agony depending on the version you’re playing). This is an item that will cause either a vibrating in the controller or an indicator on screen to appear if you are near one of the many ‘secrets’ in Ocarina of Time.

Next up we’ll be making our way over to the next Dungeon, Dodongo’s Cavern.

Death Mountain Zelda Ocarina of Time

Death Mountain Walkthrough

After our visit to the Lost Woods, our next stop is Death Mountain, the home of the Gorons. Here we’ll also take on the next Dungeon of the game, Dodongo’s Cavern.
