Larval Tear Guide
The Larval Tear is a consumable item in Elden Ring. A total of 18 can be obtained on any single playthrough and they can be used by Rennala, in the Library of Raya Lucaria, to grant you ‘rebirth’ which is a reset of your stats that allows you to respec. This is particularly useful in trying out different builds or undoing stats you’ve allocated to attributes you don’t value anymore.
Any Larval Tears you hold at the end of the game will carry over into New Game +. Larval Tears are typically obtained by defeating particular enemies found in the world, bought from merchants, or found as treasure. Larval Tears will still drop from the appropriate enemies, even if you have not defeated Rennala yet.

Larval Tear Locations
Limgrave Larval Tears
- There is only one Larval Tear to be found in the Limgrave area. It’s dropped by a Lesser Runebear enemy that can be found disguised as a single Wandering Noble enemy to the east of the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace. Strike him and he’ll change into the Rune Bear.
Liurnia of the Lakes Larval Tears
- The first is found in the graveyard near the Village of the Albinaurics.
- The second is found by defeating a Grafted Scion enemy disguised as a large Crayfish enemy near the Gazebo between the Rose Church and the Boilprawn Shack. Here you’ll find four Crayfish, one of them is patrolling while the others are sleeping. You want to defeat the one that is patrolling, when defeated he will change into a Grafted Scion enemy, defeating it will get you another Larval Tear.
- The third is east of Caria Manor, in the Graveyard, you’ll only be able to obtain this if you’ve found the “Resurrection” Painting. You’ll need to defeat the Royal Knight Loretta boss before you can access the area as well. Head in and look for a ghost sitting in a chair in the Graveyard. Speak to him to obtain the Larval Tear as well Juvenile Scholar set.
- After defeating Royal Knight Loretta you can purchase a fourth Larval Tear from the Pidia Merchant for 3,000 Runes.
Caelid Larval Tears
- Dropped by a Troll enemy that is disguised as a Wandering Noble. You’ll find the enemy by the Stone Coffins on the cliff to the south of the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace. Defeat the Noble to spawn the Troll, and defeat him to receive the Larval Tear.
Altus Plateau Larval Tears
- Defeat the Lion Guardian enemy disguised as a Wandering Noble enemy. You’ll find them in some unnamed Ruins to the Southeast of Windmill Village. The ruins are located on the cliffside.
Mt Gelmir Larval Tears
- To the east of the Road of Inequity Site of Grace, you’ll find a Flaming Putrid Corpse enemy, defeat it to spawn a Wormface enemy, and defeat him to receive the Larval Tear. It’s the enemy by the first fire of the ruined camp.
Consecrated Snowfield Larval Tears
- Another Rune Bear disguised as a Noble, you’ll find them southeast of the Inner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace. There will be two nobles standing around looking at a third buried in the snow. The buried one is the Rune Bear.
Siofra River Larval Tears
- Can be purchased for 3,000 Runes from the Nomadic Merchant found in Siofra River.
Nokron, Eternal City Larval Tears
- Found on a corpse to the southeast of the Nokron, Eternal City Site of Grace. Its inside the stone building you’ll find there.
- Found on a corpse in the center of a Gazebo found in Nokron, Eternal City. When you approach, a bunch of Silver Tear enemies will drop down to ambush you.
- Dropped by a Silver Sphere found in Night’s Sacred Ground. Use a ranged weapon to defeat the Silver Sphere.
- The Mimic Tear Boss will drop 2x when defeated.
Nokstella, Eternal City Larval Tears
- Dropped by a Silver Sphere enemy on the Bridge in Nokstella. Use a ranged weapon to defeat it more easily.
- In the northeast building after you cross the bridge in Nokstella you’ll find another Silver Sphere enemy hanging from the ceiling of a building. Walk underneath to make it drop and then defeat it from range. If you destroy it while it is still on the roof, there is a chance the item will get stuck up there.
