Materials in Monster Hunter World are found by carving defeated monsters, gathered from various places, awarded for completing quests, or by capturing monsters. Most materials are primarily used as ingredients to upgrade your weapons, armor, or charms. Below is a list of all the materials in the game, along with how to find them.
Ancient Bone
A bone used as crafting material. Can be found in bonepiles in the Ancient Forest. It’s size provokes a certain primal quality.
You can obtain the Ancient Bone by gathering out in the field or as a Quest Reward. At Low-Rank the best Quests for rewarding Ancient Bone include; Chew The Fat (19% chance as a reward), Up at the Crack of Dawn (19% chance as a reward), and Kestodon Kerfuffle (16% chance as a reward).
You can also find Ancient Bones by searching the Bone Piles of the Ancient Forest. At Low and High Rank, Bonepiles have a 20% chance per search to award an Ancient Bone. At Master-Rank this increases to 25%.
Ace Hunter Coin
This item is acquired by completing 8-Star and higher, High-Rank Arena Quests. Each of these quests contains a 20% chance of awarding the Ace Hunter Coin.
Advanced Armor Sphere
Advanced Armor Sphere is acquired by completing High-Rank Quests and as a reward for completing High-Rank Bounties from the Resource Centre in Astera. High-Rank Elder Dragon Quests have the best rate for awarding them, at 16% per quest.
Adamant Seed
Temporarily raises your defense when ingested by hardening tissue.
Adamant Seeds can be consumed to boost defense by 20 points for 180 seconds. This buffs stacks with many others, except for the Adamant Pill. Adamant Seeds are most easily acquired by cultivating them at the Botanical Research Center in Astera. You can also find them in the following areas:
- Ancient Forest – Areas 11 and 17
- Coral Highlands – Areas 10 and 11
- Elder’s Recess – Area 4
Antidote
A cure for poison.
Consuming an Antidote will cure the Poison Status that some monsters can inflict. Antidotes can be purchased directly or made from Antidote Herbs in your crafting menu.
Antidote Herb
Primary ingredient in Antidotes.
Antidote Herbs can be gathered in the wild of all locations. You can then use your crafting menu to turn them into Antidotes. They can be cultivated at the Astera Botanical Research facility as well. Look for them in the following areas:
- Ancient Forest – Areas 5, 6, and 16.
- Wildspire Waste – Areas 2, 5, 7, 11, and 13.
- Rotten Vale – Area 6.
- Elder’s Recess – Area 8.
Aquacore Ore
A valuable mineral used to create charms. Gives off a vibrant glow that mirrors the ocean.
Aquacore Ore is mined in the Coral Highlands from Blue Mining Spots on both Low-Rank and High-Rank. It is primarily used for crafting Charms. The best places to find the mining spots are:
- Coral Highlands
- Low-Rank: Area 11, 8, 9, and 15.
- High-Rank: Area 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15.
Armor Sphere
Reacts uniquely to heat. Fuse this to armor to improve it by a tiny amount.
Armor Sphere is obtained by completing Low-Rank Quests and also as rewards for completing Low-Rank Bounties in the Resource Center in Astera.
Armor Sphere is worth one upgrade point when trying to upgrade your Armor.
Armor Sphere+
Reacts uniquely to heat. Fuse this to armor to improve it by a small amount.
Obtained by completing Low-Rank Quests and also as a reward for completing Low-Rank Bounties in the Resource Center in Astera.
Armor Sphere+ is worth five upgrade points when trying to upgrade your Armor.
Astera Jerky
Juicy, dried meat made by Astera’s chef. Boosts natural healing and cures bleeding.
Primarily purchased from the Provision Stockpile in Astera.
Astera Jerky cures bleeding, heals all recoverable health, and gives Recovery Up effects for the next 60 seconds. This doubles the rate that you recover the Red Portion of your HP bar for 60 seconds.
Attack Jewel
A decoration that enhances the Attack Boost skill.
Attack Jewel in Monster Hunter World requires a single Gem Slot in your armor and will boost your Attack Boost skill by 1. Attack Boost has a maximum skill level of 7 and increases your weapon damage from Level 1, and your weapon affinity beyond Level 4.
Azure Star Shard
Special material given to those who complete USJ’s challenge. Glows a beautiful, transparent blue.
This material is obtained solely by completing the quest, USJ: Gold Star Treatment. Completing the quest will reward at least one of the Azure Star Shard material. It is used to craft special event gear for your Hunter or Palico.
Baitbug
An insect used as fishing bait. A fish favorite, it practically races down the nearest gilly gullet.
Used as bait to help with catching any type of fish. You can select bait while you have the fishing rod drawn, in the same way that you would switch ammo types for a Bow or Gun.
Baitbug is primarily found by gathering. You’ll find it in the following locations:
- Ancient Forest – Area 10 and 11.
- Wildspire Waste – Area 1 and 11.
- Coral Highlands – Areas 6, 11, and 14.
- Rotten Vale – Area 15.
- Elder’s Recess – Areas 1, and 8.
Barnos Talon
Rare Barnos material. Obtained by carving. Unusual, used in select gear.
Barnos Talon is primarily obtained by carving the bodies of High-Rank Barnos monsters. You’ll find them flying in the first areas of the Elder’s Recess. You have a 30% chance to obtain the Barnos Talon each time you carve one of them.
Barnos Hide+
Rare Barnos material. Obtained by carving. Supple, used to craft gear.
Barnos Hide+ is primarily obtained by carving the bodies of High-Rank Barnos monsters. You’ll find them flying in the first areas of the Elder’s Recess. You have a 70% chance to obtain the Barnos Hide+ each time you carve one of them.
