Monographs Guide Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

Welcome back to Episode 3 of our Gameplay guide for Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age. Today we’re going to be mainly taking some time to unlock all the various Monograph items available to us.

Monographs are a special type of item in Final Fantasy 12. They are unlocked for purchase in the Bazaar menu available at most stores. What they do is to increase the drop rate of rare loot from various types of monsters. They also seem to enable monsters to drop more than one piece of loot, more frequently.

Monograph Unlock Conditions

Hunter’s Monograph Cost: $18,000 – Obtainable after speaking to Gatsly once you have completed the Thextera Hunt. Increases drops from beast and avion class monsters.

Knight’s Monograph Cost: $19,000 – Speak to any weapon store owner 30+ times to unlock. Increases drops from giants and insect class enemies.

Warmage’s Monograph Cost: $20,000 – Interact with the Hunt Board 20+ times. Increases drops from amorphs and undead.

Mage’s Monograph Cost: $21,000 – Speak to any magic store owner 25+ times. Increases drops from fiend type enemies.

Dragoon’s Monograph Cost: $22,000 – Interact with the Hunt Board 40+ times. Increases drops from Dragons and Plant type enemies.

Scholar’s Monograph Cost: $22,000 – Talk to any Armour store owner 15+ times. Increases drops from construct type enemies.

Sage’s Monograph Cost: $25,000 – Interact with any store owners a total of 100+ times. You should complete this in the course of completing the other Monograph’s. Increases drops from elemental enemies.

We’ll have an opportunity soon enough in the story to earn enough money to unlock all of these Monographs, so for now, don’t worry too much about trying to purchase them. Just make sure to have them all unlocked.

Once you’re done unlocking the Monographs, head over to Dalan’s house for a cutscene and our next objective for advancing the story.

Next time we’ll be completing some early game farming and item gathering. So if you haven’t already gone and farmed some Phoenix Downs from that chest in the Estersand, head there now. You’ll want at least 20 for the Dustia Farming in the next episode.
