Monster Hunter World Persistent Pests Quest
Monster Hunter World’s Persistent Pests Quest is a slaying quest for Hornetaur. Hornetaur are a small monster found mostly in the Rotten Vale in Monster Hunter World. They can be very difficult to obtain materials from as they tend to explode when killed. Finish them off with a slinger projectile to have a much higher chance of being able to carve off of them. You can usually find new projectiles in the same areas that they inhabit. Be sure to keep your stock up if you want to be able to carve from them. Gradual poison damage is another way to kill them while still being able to get a carve.
The easiest locations to find Hornetaur in the Rotten Vale are in Areas 3 and 4. The different hunting ranks will produce different carve results from Hornetaurs, so double check what you need before beginning the quest if you are chasing materials.
In the same area as the Hornetaur are an Endemic life creature called Scavantula. They are a purple looking spider that can be captured and added to various locations around your house, back in Astera.
Once you turn in this quest to the Chief Botanist you will unlock an upgrade for your ancient tree back in Astera. This quest along with the “To Hold a Harvest” Delivery of 2x Aqua Sacs and the 3 Star optional quest called “Prickly Predicament” provide all the low rank upgrades available to the Ancient Tree.
In low rank, they will drop:
- Hornetaur Shell,
- Hornetaur Wing,
- Monster fluid,
- Hornetaur Head.
High-rank drops are:
- Hornetaur carapace,
- Hornetaur inner wing,
- Monster Broth.
Master rank drops include:
- Hornetaur Razorwing,
- Monster Essence.
