Preliminary Games – Olympus Coliseum
When you first enter Olympus Coliseum you can grab a Blue Trinity (#7) from under the feet of the large statue on the left, close by you’ll also find a chest containing a Mega-Potion. Head over to the other statue on the far side for another Blue Trinity (#8) which reveals a chest containing our next batch of Dalmatian Puppies (22, 23, and 24).
Head inside the Coliseum entrance to the Lobby and try to talk to Phil, he’ll ask you to move a block, thinking that you’re Hercules. Try to move the block and Sora will say it’s simply too heavy. Speak to Phil again to have him realize his mistake and offer to let you complete some preliminary training for a shot at the upcoming games.
These barrel tests are not too hard once you get the gist of it. Check the video above if you need help with either of the levels. They start at the 3:20 mark. Basically, you just need to destroy all the barrels within the time limit, be aware that in the second trial you’ll want to start by running around the perimeter of the area and destroy those barrels first. Once these are both completed you’ll be rewarded with Thunder Magic (damage = Max MP x2 +14), but ultimately told you’re still not strong enough to compete. So try to head back towards the world’s entrance to be stopped by Hades, who is kind enough to have a spare ticket for us! What could possibly go wrong!
Head back in and speak to Phil to get started. These are all just battles with Sora, Donald, and Goofy facing off against various enemies. Complete them and you’ll eventually have to face Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7.
Boss Battle: Cloud Strife
Boss: | Cloud Strife |
HP: | 300 |
EXP: | 80 |
Rewards: | N/A |
The best strategy for Cloud is to bait out his jump attacks and dodge them, then quickly deliver a combo to damage him. You can also use the Guard skill if you have it to block most of his attacks and land a combo while he is recoiling.
Complete the battle and you’ll be interrupted by Hades releasing Cerberus. Luckily Hercules shows up to buy us some time. Head back to the Lobby, save and heal. When you’re ready speak to Phil to jump back in and help Hercules out by taking care of Cerberus.
Boss Battle: Cerberus
Boss: | Cerberus |
HP: | 600 |
EXP: | 200 |
Rewards: | Inferno Band (Reduces Fire and Dark Damage by 20%, Increases Def +2) |
The best strategy for dealing with Cerberus is to dodge most of his attacks and wait for him to crouch down and do his bite attacks. When he starts this you can stand off to one side of him and wait for the head closest to you to complete its bite, then jump and attack the head twice. Any more than that and you’ll generally get caught with the next set of bites. Continue to dodge his other attacks and focus on dealing damage when he starts biting and you’ll be victorious with no trouble at all.
Once you’ve beaten him, you’re done in the Coliseum for now. It will host several other Games over the course of Kingdom Hearts so you’ll be back shortly. As you try and leave Cloud will speak to you about someone he’s searching for, and give you the Sonic Blade ability.
Side Note: The person he’s searching for appears to be Aerith, who we saw in Traverse Town. If he would have only said her name we could have reunited them.
We’ll be back to the Coliseum soon enough for the next batch of games, but in the meantime, we need to head to Deep Jungle to continue to progress the story.
With the Preliminary Games in the Olympus Coliseum complete, we can head off to our next destination, Deep Jungle.
Phil’s Cup – Olympus Coliseum
Phil’s Cup is the next available tournament we can enter. This becomes accessible after we have sealed the Keyhole in Traverse Town during our second visit there, after our battle with the Opposite Armor. Don’t forget that there are no item drops in the Coliseum so you’re safe to unequip abilities like Jackpot in favor of picking more combat abilities for Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
Phil's Cup Match Breakdown - Olympus Coliseum

1 | Jungle Vice | 4 Powerwilds 3 Soldiers |
2 | Monkey and Magic | 1 Powerwild 2 Green Requiems 2 Red Nocturnes 5 Yellow Operas |
3 | Big Feet | 1 Hammerlegs 4 Powerwilds |
4 | Magic Alert | 5 Red Nocturnes 5 Yellow Operas |
5 | Nightwalkers | 1 Large Body 5 Powerwilds |
6 | Hard Hitters | 1 Gauntlets 3 Blue Rhapsodies 4 Shadows |
7 | Indomitable | 2 Large Bodies 6 Green Requiems |
8 | Wild Corps | 1 Gauntlets 1 Hammerlegs 4 Powerwilds |
9 | Shadow Battalion | 1 Armored Torso 4 Yellow Operas 4 Blue Rhapsodies |
At the end of the Cup, you’ll be awarded the Gravity spell. You should be able to complete the solo challenge as well at this point for a free Combo Plus skill for Sora. Completing the Time Trial for the Phil Cup may require you to come back a little later, once you’ve gained more levels. You’ll be rewarded with a Tech Boost ability for your effort though.
Damage for the Gravity Spell is worked out by the following: ((Max MP x5) + 40)% of the enemies Max HP. It works best on enemies with large Health Pools, such as Large Bodies and their variants. You can also use it to bring anything floating back down to the ground, this includes chests on floating platforms as well as enemies that like to fly out of reach.
This is also a great place to farm some levels if you need as you can just keep re-entering the Cup as many times as you want. The next world we’re off to is Agrabah so head on over once you’re done.
With the Phil Cup complete, make your way over to the next story destination, Agrabah.
Olympus Coliseum – Post Agrabah
Once you’ve completed Agrabah be sure to return to Olympus Coliseum. First of all use your newly upgraded Blizzara magic to extinguish all the torches in the Coliseum Gates area to be rewarded with a Holy-G in a chest. Next, if you look beneath the purple banners you can find our next Green Trinity (#5), activate it for a Mythril.
Pegasus Cup – Olympus Coliseum
Once you have completed the Monstro world you will get an announcement the next time you board the Gummi Ship, that there is a new Tournament available at Olympus Coliseum, The Pegasus Cup.

8 | Giant Impact | 3 Fat Bandits 2 Large Bodies |
9 | Leon and Yuffie | Leon Yuffie |
The Pegasus Cup at Olympus is a great place to spend a bit of time if you need to put some levels on Sora too. The final match of the cup gives about 700exp and the cup as a whole easily will net you at least 1300-1500 per run. There are better grinding opportunities out there, later in the game, but if you need one right now this is great for a couple of levels.
Completing the Pegasus Cup as a group will get you the Strike Raid ability for Sora. Completing it Solo will reward you an Orichalcum and the Time Trial mode will give you a Dark Matter.
Boss Battle: Leon and Yuffie
Boss: | Leon and Yuffie |
HP: | Leon - 600 Yuffie - 300 |
EXP: | Leon - 400 Yuffie - 300 |
Rewards: | Group - Strike Raid Solo - Orichalcum Time Trial - Dark Matter |
The only enemies of note in the Pegasus Cup are Leon and Yuffie, who will be the final match of the cup. Focus on Yuffie first as she has ranged attacks, as well as the ability to heal herself.
Facing Leon without Yuffie is much easier. Leon has gained new abilities since we last fought as well. At about half health he will use a Limit Break ability to increase the damage and reach of his Gunblade, if you’ve played Final Fantasy 8 you’ll recognize this as his Lion Heart finisher.
Try to finish him quickly once he uses this ability as the reach on it can make avoiding his attacks much harder. Staying in close will allow you to continue to attack him while still allowing you to dodge roll towards his back and avoid the Gunblade.
Keep it up and he will eventually go down.
Once you’re done with the Pegasus Cup, head over to Atlantica to continue the story.

Hercules Cup – Olympus Coliseum
Once you’ve cleared Neverland we unlock the Hercules Cup here in the Olympus Coliseum. Enter and speak to Phil and let him know you’d like to participate in the cup as a group. This cup features most of the Heartless that you’ve already fought in Neverland, as well as two Boss Battles. The first, a rematch with Cloud Strife, and the second is a match against Hercules himself.

Boss Battle: Cloud (Hercules Cup)
Boss: | Cloud (Hercules Cup) |
HP: | 450 |
EXP: | 500 |
Rewards: | Metal Chocobo Keyblade |
Your first serious fight in this cup will be your rematch with Cloud. He still uses basically the exact same patterns and attacks, only they hit a lot harder this time around. Once you weaken him far enough, he’ll grow more powerful and begin gliding around the arena slashing at you. I avoid this by gliding above him with High-Jump for as long as possible. It’s also possible to simply equip the Guard ability and press yourself into a corner while performing continuous Guard’s to limit the damage taken. Either way works, and after a time he’ll return to his regular form and you can continue the fight. For defeating him this time you’ll earn a new Keyblade, the Metal Chocobo.
A few matches later you’ll face off against Hercules himself, in this fight you’ll only use Sora 1v1 against Hercules.
Boss Battle: Hercules (Hercules Cup)
Boss: | Hercules (Hercules Cup) |
HP: | 450 |
EXP: | 700 |
Rewards: | Herc's Shield Yellow Trinity Olympia Keyblade Complete the Games Solo for a Critical Plus Ability for Sora. Complete the Games on Time Trial for the ability Gravity Break for Sora. |
Hercules starts with an indestructible aura surrounding him, wait for some barrels to spawn into the arena and pick one up, lock on to Herc and throw it at him. This will remove his aura and allow you to perform a combo or two. After approximately two combo’s Herc will put his aura back up, doing so will create a massive shockwave that will destroy the barrels currently in the arena. You’ll need to wait for more to spawn and simply repeat the process until he goes down. Once you’ve got the pattern down the fight becomes quite simple. At some point he will start spinning around the arena chasing you, to avoid this I highly recommend continous Dodge Rolls away from the direction he is coming from.
For completing the Hercules Cup you’ll receive the Yellow Trinity ability, Herc’s Shield for Goofy, and the Olympia Keyblade for Sora. You’ll remember the block that Phil asked us to push out of the way the first time we came to Olympus? Well, it has a Yellow Trinity beside it. Activate the Yellow Trinity (#1) to perform our first “Trinity Push” to reveal the Keyhole in the Coliseum. Sora will seal it and you are now free to head for the world’s exit. Now that we have the Yellow Trinity ability we need to revisit some worlds. Board the Gummi Ship and head for Traverse Town first.
Now that we’re able to utilize the Yellow Trinities, and the Glide skill, it’s time to revisit some worlds and collect some items we couldn’t get the first time around.
Olympus Coliseum – Post Hollow Bastion
This will be a quick one, head forwards and in the center of the first area of the Coliseum, you’ll find White Trinity (#3) on the ground. Activate it to spawn a chest containing the Violetta Staff for Donald. If you have the Wizards Relic from Hollow Bastion then this staff is already outclassed. Head back out the exit of the world and over to Deep Jungle.
Continue our hunt for White Trinities in Deep Jungle.
Hades Cup – Olympus Coliseum
The Hades Cup is the largest of the Olympus Coliseum games. This time consisting of 49 Rounds, every 10th round with be a mini-boss battle. The first time you clear each of the bosses, you’ll be rewarded with something. Make sure prior to starting that everyone’s item slots are full of healing items and that Sora has both Curaga and Aeroga on the shortcut menu.

There are numerous new enemies to talk about with these games so lets begin:
Boss Battle: Yuffie (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Yuffie (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 450 |
EXP: | 660 |
Rewards: | Genji Shield (Goofy) |
First up is Yuffie, by this point in the game she won’t be much of a challenge at all. Simply keep Aeroga up and stay close to her. It’s likely that Aeroga will disrupt a lot of her attacks and create openings for you to exploit. For taking her down you’ll gain the Genji Shield for Goofy.
Boss Battle: Destroyed Behemoth (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Destroyed Behemoth (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 1,500 |
EXP: | 600 |
Rewards: | Blizzard Magic Upgrade (Blizzaga) |
This Behemoth fight is exactly the same as the one we fought in Hollow Bastion. Target the horn with physical attacks by climbing onto its back, or you can attack from a distance with Gravity magic. Either way it will go down and you’ll be rewarded with an upgrade for your Blizzard Magic. Blizzaga now deals your Max MP + 34 damage per shard of ice that hits the enemy.
New Heartless: Angel Star
New Heartless | Angel Star |
HP: | 220 |
EXP: | 150 |
Drops: | Gale (6%) Ether (1%) Mythril (1%) |
Aerial combo’s are the fastest way to deal with Angel Stars, if left alone they will begin to charge much more powerful variants of their regular attacks, so be careful.
Boss Battle: Cerberus (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Cerberus (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 1,200 |
EXP: | 1,000 |
Rewards: | Thunder Magic Upgrade (Thundaga) |
Your second time facing off against Cerberus, you can use the exact same strategy as the first. Dodge his attacks until he bends over and begins his biting attacks. Stand off to the side of either the left or right most head and wait for it to finish its bite before you jump and hit it twice. Keep Aeroga up to both reduce the damage you may take, and to get in some extra hits during the fight. Once he falls you’ll be granted an upgrade to your Thunder magic, Thundara will turn to Thundaga. Thundaga does damage equal to (2 x Max MP) + 26 per bolt.
Boss Battle: Cloud (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Cloud (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 600 |
EXP: | 1,000 |
Rewards: | For defeating both Cloud and Leon you'll receive the Lionheart Keyblade. |
Boss Battle: Leon (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Leon (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 900 |
EXP: | 800 |
Rewards: | For defeating both Cloud and Leon you'll receive the Lionheart Keyblade. |
You’ll fight both Leon and Cloud together in these games. Cloud can be more of a nuisance with his long range jumping attacks, so target him first. Try to take down one fighter at a time, as both get power boosts at low HP and you dont want both triggering at once.
You can bait Cloud into a jump attack and then combo him, or you can deflect one of his sword swings with your guard for an opening to attack as well. The Ars Arcanum ability can be used to take massive chunks of HP off of him if you feel you can spare the MP as well. Once he reaches half health he will begin to fly around the arena slashing at you. I found spamming Dodge Roll, to be the most effective counter to this, just make sure to keep Aeroga up for this fight as well. Eventually Cloud will go down and you can switch focus to Leon.
Your Aeroga spell will actually deflect his Fireballs, so you no longer need to worry about that. Leon can also be baited into jump attacks that leave him open afterwards, or you can simply keep Aeroga up and brute force the fight at this point. At half health, he will trigger his Limit Break skill, making his Gunblade far more dangerous. Your best option again is to simply keep your defences up and get into melee range to finish the fight as quickly as possible. Once you start a combo on him, he will be unable to attack until you finish. For defeating both fighters you’ll receive the Lionheart Keyblade for Sora.
New Heartless: Invisible
New Heartless | Invisible |
HP: | 300 |
EXP: | 120 |
Drops: | Gale (6%) Orichalcum (1%) |
The new Heartless, Invisible, will attack at Sora with its sword and also has the ability to fire off dark energy that will home in on its target. It can also throw its sword into the ground to vanish and cause a ring to appear around Sora, after a time the ring will close and deal damage. You can avoid this by jumping or by rolling as the ring is closing.
Boss Battle: Hades (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Hades (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 1,800 |
EXP: | 3,000 |
Rewards: | Gravity Magic Upgrade (Graviga) |
Stay just outside of Hades range and ahead of him by Dodge Rolling, this will keep you away from the majority of his attacks. Every now and then he’ll stop attacking, which allows an opening for you to unleash a combo. The only attack of his that can cause significant issues is when he moves to the middle of the arena and begins to spin, throwing large walls of fire from both hands. To counter this you need to move quite close to him and move in the same direction he is spinning. Doing this will have you match the speed of the flames and you wont get hit by them. Casting Blizzard magic will disrupt most of his attacks spells except for that last one, which cannot be interupted.
For winning this fight you’ll unlock an upgrade to your Gravity Magic. Graviga will do damage to the enemy proportional to (Max MP x 5) + 70% of the enemies max HP in damage. This spell is great for enemies with large health pools.
Boss Battle: Rock Titan (Hades Cup)
Boss: | Rock Titan (Hades Cup) |
HP: | 2,100 |
EXP: | 4,000 |
Rewards: | Beating the Rock Titan as a group will give Sora the Trinity Limit skill. The Solo Prize is the Save The Queen Staff for Donald. The Time Trial prize is the Save The King Shield for Goofy. |
The process for this fight is to attack the Rock Titan’s feet until it falls over, providing you a path to climb up and attack its heads. After a couple of combo’s you will likely be shaken off, and the process will repeat. Make sure to keep Aeroga up as the extra hits from it will help to whittle away at the Titan’s HP. You can speed the fight along alittle by utilizing Ars Arcanum during the fight as well.
With the last battle of the Hades Cup behind us, you’ll trigger a cutscene and then be able to speak to Phil again if you’d like to attempt it either Solo or in the Time Trial mode. For completing it Solo you’ll gain the Save The Queen Staff for Donald, for completing it on the Time Trial mode, you’ll unlock the Save The King Shield for Goofy. Both of these weapons will see you through to almost the final boss, plus the experience you gain completing the cup multiple times will be very helpful for the next fights.
Speaking to Phil will also unlock two additional, optional, fights you can undertake. The first is the Gold Match against the Ice Titan, and the second is the Platinum Match against Sephiroth. Both of these fights fall into the same Optional Superboss catagories as Kurt Zisa and the Phantom.
Outside the Coliseum you’ll find a pot behind the columns that you can interact with to obtain an Orichalcum.
Save your game and talk to Phil when you’re ready to face the Ice Titan.
Boss Battle: Ice Titan (Gold Match)
Boss: | Ice Titan |
HP: | 1,500 |
EXP: | 5,000 |
Rewards: | Diamond Dust Keyblade |
For this battle you’ll need to have the Guard ability equipped. Once the battle starts, head for the raised edges of the arena. Here you want to run backwards and forwards to dodge the majority of the Ice Titan’s attacks. Eventually it will shoot a stream of small Ice Shards at you, when it does this, stop running and use your Guard ability to deflect them back at the Ice Titan. Make sure you have its head targeted. Hit these shards back at it enough and the Ice Titan will fall down in pain, allowing you the opportunity to attack its head. The most useful skill for this is Ragnarok.
Continue to run around the arena dodging the other attacks that the Ice Titan uses and deflecting back its smaller shards. If you try to cheat by casting Aeroga, the Ice Titan will stop shooting smaller Ice Shards and will instead fire much larger ones that cannot be deflected.
Keep the fight up and eventually the Ice Titan will go down and you will be rewarded with the Diamond Dust Keyblade.
You now have the option to speak to Phil again and select the final option, the Platinum Match.
Boss Battle: Sephiroth (Platinum Match)
Boss: | Sephiroth |
HP: | 1,800 |
EXP: | 10,000 |
Rewards: | One-Winged Angel Keyblade |
Sephiroth is easily one of the hardest fights in this game. There is one boss that was added in the Final Mix version that surpasses him, but only just.
For this fight you’re going to want to be as high a level as possible. Your main way of dealing damage to Sephiroth is the ability Strike Raid, so be sure to have this equipped prior to the fight, as well as any other defensive abilities you may have. Abilities like Combo Master, MP Rage, MP Haste, Critical Plus, Second Chance, and Leaf Bracer are also highly recommended. You’re going to go through a ton of MP in this fight, so the Diamond Dust Keyblade will be helpful, along with any other MP boosting Accessories you may have. Ideally you’re going to want to farm for several of the Crystal Crown Accessories, and then stick them all on Sora.
One of the toughest parts of the fight with Sephiroth is an attack of his, called Sin Harvest, that will leave you with 1 HP and zero MP. He will teleport to a different part of the arena and begin to cast a spell that will put a Halo above his head. Once he finishes casting the Halo will transfer to Sora and you will lose all but 1 HP and all of your MP. He will then follow up very quickly with a slash attack. This attack will kill you if you are unprepared for it. You can interupt Sephiroth if he is close enough, simply hit him while he is casting to interupt the attack. The other option is that before the fight you will need to stock all your item slots with Elixir’s. As soon as you see him begin to cast this attack, move to one of the corners of the arena and target lock him, you need to go into your item menu and select an Elixir, then hover your cursor over Sora, as soon as your HP becomes 1, you need to select to use the Elixir. If you time it right you will have several seconds to spare before Sephiroth then performs his slash attack.
Many of Sephiroth’s other attacks can be avoided by staying out of range and using the Strike Raid ability to throw your Keyblade at him to damage him. This works for his Fire Pillar attack, as well as when he surrounds himself with Meteors.
Take your time with this fight and be careful. When you eventually win, you’ll trigger a cutscene as well as receive the One-Winged Angle Keyblade. A great Keyblade if you are a melee build.
After everything is complete, it’s time to leave Olympus Coliseum and head fly to Hollow Bastion. From Hollow Bastion you can depart for the final location in Kingdom Hearts, End Of The World.
