Rathalos Rematch Monster Hunter World Optional Quest

Our next Optional Quest in Monster Hunter World is Rathalos Rematch. We’re off to the Ancient Forest to face off against a Rathalos, this time there is also a Rathian in the area as well, which adds a layer of complexity to the quest.

The first part of this quest is going to be deciding what to do about the Rathian. You cannot effectively fight both at the same time. You can bring dungbombs to fire at one to make it leave the area, you can try to only fight them when they are alone, however, be aware that this will limit the time available to fight them. Either way be sure to bring traps and flash bombs, you’re going to need them. Bring the materials to craft more as the fight continues as well. Antidotes are another must, as both monsters can inflict Poison.

Rathalos himself is weak against primarily Dragon and Thunder elements, with small weaknesses to Ice and Water. Be sure to bring armor that resists Fire Damage as that will limit the damage you take from some of his most devastating attacks.

He will try and spend time in the air, making it difficult to reach him with your attacks. Use a flashbomb to bring him back to the ground and give you the opportunity to smack him around a little. Be sure to also bring enough materials to create more flashbombs as the fight progresses, their effects on flying monsters are well worth it.

Rathalos’s weak points are the head, wings, and tail. You can also break its head, wings, body, and sever its tail for an extra carve. Breaking the wings, in particular, will alter its ability to fly, giving you an opening to attack each time it tries to take off.
