Solomon Ring Guide

Solomon Ring is a Tool item found in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered (FF8, FFVIII) it is used by the player to unlock the optional Guardian Force, Doomtrain. Obtain the Solomon Ring and then use it from your inventory to summon the Doomtrain GF.

Occult Fan Magazine Locations

Throughout the game you’ll run across the “Occult Magazines” each of these items give you a clue about how to obtain the Solomon Ring. The first two of them can also be purchased from the Esthar Bookshop.

The third is located in Fisherman’s Horizon, you’ll need to speak with the Master Fisherman on the lower crane, before meeting with the Mayor, and select the option “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The fourth volume is found by speaking to the Presidential Aide outside the Airstation near the Presidential Palace in Esthar. Head over to into the Presidential Palace and speak to the Aide again and he’ll leave the fourth volume of the Occult Fan Magazine behind.

Reading the four magazines reveals the clues required to obtain the Solomon Ring.

How to find the Solomon Ring

You can find the Soloman Ring itself at Tears Point, located on the Esthar Plains to the east of Esthar City. In Tears Point you’ll find the Soloman Ring by the feet of the Statue of a Woman with a Harp. Tears Point is one of the only areas still accessible in the end-game as well, as it is tied to obtaining an optional GF.

How to Acquire Doomtrain (GF)

You’ll need a total of 18 specific items in your inventory to be able to use the Solomon Ring item in your inventory to summon the GF Doomtrain. Typically players are meant to figure this out by reading the Occult Fan Magazines.

The easiest ways to obtain these items are:

  • Malboro Tentacles can be found by winning fights with Malboro enemies. They are awarded as both a drop and steal from the Malboro enemies which can be found in the Esthar Region (Grandidi Forest and the Plains), as well as on the Island Closest to Heaven and Hell.
  • Steel Pipes can be obtained by mugging the Wendigo enemies found in the Forest areas of both Dollet and Timber.
  • Remedies+ can be obtained through the GF Ability Med Lvl Up. Purchase 10x Remedy and use the Med Lvl Up Ability to upgrade them to 1x Remedy+. You’ll need a total of 6 in your inventory to be able to access Doomtrain.
