Tales of Berseria Tutorial
Welcome to our walkthrough for the Tales of Berseria game, this first section will cover the Tutorial for Tales of Berseria. We’re going to be covering 100% of the game and all collectibles as we go through. Our first session is going to cover from the Village of Aball and the surrounding Tranquil Woods, up until we arrive in Titania. For the most part, this section of the story is very straightforward. Just make sure to witness all of the Skits, if you are also going for 100%.
Critical Information
Shiny Spots
Keep an eye out for any shiny locations you may see as you travel. These spots denote a collectible item and should be gathered whenever you see them.
Skits
Skits are the events that will pop up with the characters interacting with each other at points during the game. To complete a 100% play through you’ll need to trigger every skit. So remember to keep track with the guide as we go. Some will be automatically triggered as you progress through the story but some will require you to go a little out of your way to get them to trigger.
Learning Skills
In Tales of Berseria you learn skills from using equipment in battle. It’s a similar system to that of Final Fantasy 9 if you have played it, then this will be very familiar. Basically you equip an item with an ability, then after each battle you are awarded points towards mastery of any ability on any piece of gear you were using during the battle. Once you’ve gained enough points you learn the ability from the piece of gear and can switch it to something else so you can learn something different.
Once you have learned the ability from a piece of gear you can leave it still equiped to gain a x2 effect from it. So if a piece of gear has the ability attack + 10% for example, then once you’ve learned that ability if you keep the bit of gear equipped it will actually now trigger twice. So you would gain +20% attack, in that example.

Start the game, after the cutscenes have all finished, speak to Laphicet in his room before you head out of the house to examine the gravestones. Once your done head into the town and watch the skit called Dinner Plans.
Around the town you’ll find NPC’s with (!) above their heads, make sure to speak to them to learn more about the events leading up to this point in the game. You can also find 2 chests in town, one containing the item Apple Gel, and another containing a Resistance Ring near the General Store. Whenever you get new gear like this be sure to equip it.
If you head into the Morgana Woods, you’ll get a scene with some of the hunters there. Although our actual destination is the Tranquil Woods, which you can get to through another exit in town. Take the Eastern exit to arrive in the Tranquil Woods.

Here in the Tranquil Woods, we’ll start to encounter our first enemies. When you do find a Prickleboar for the first time you’ll initiate the Battle Tutorial. Follow along with it to learn the basics of combat. After the first battle, you’ll trigger the Skit: The Prickleboars’ Future. You’ll find a chest containing an Apple Gel around here as well.
Finish off the groups of Prickleboars and make your way to the Temple Ruins out the Eastern exit. This is where the final group of Prickleboars is, finish them off to trigger the skit: Prickleboars Hunted! Here you’ll also find a giant hole in the ground, approach it to trigger another Skit: The Shrine On The Cape.
Once your done, make your way back to town. Along the way you’ll run into another group of Prickleboars, this will trigger the ability to change Velvet’s Arte skills. Add her skill Searing Edge to one of the attack trees as it is very effective against the Prickleboar’s and other beast-type enemies.
Finish the fight, watch the Skit: After the Hunt… and make your way back into town.

In the center of town, you can trigger a scene that results in you getting 3x Apple Gels. Afterward, head back to the house to trigger the Skit: At The Family Grave. Inside the house, you’ll have a few scenes with Laphi before needing to head over to the oven in the kitchen to light it and trigger another Skit: Laphi’s Request. Head upstairs with the ladder to grab the spice and view another Skit: Velvet’s Dream. Then head back down and speak to Laphicet to trigger the Skit: After All, We’re Family before returning to the kitchen.
The next morning you’ll need to head through town to go back towards the woods. On the way through town, talk to the people for some more scenes, before you continue on to the Tranquil Woods again. As you’re headed East towards the cape, you’ll have two more Skits play out: A Memory of Princessias and Appleboo. Once you arrive at the cape you’ll be forced into a fight with a Daemon. This is an unwinnable fight and will end quickly.
The Scarlet Night
After the scenes finish you’ll regain control of Velvet and need to head through the town to return to the cape for one last set of scenes. If you encounter a fight along the way you’ll trigger the Tutorial on how to flee battles as we still don’t have the ability to damage these Daemons yet. Once you reach the Cape you’ll eventually be granted the strength to fight Daemon’s shortly before being thrown into battle with a few of them. They should no longer pose much of a threat. Finish them off and watch the rest of the scenes unfold before you wake up in our next destination, Titania Prison.
