Dragon Fin Guide
Dragon Fin is a Miscellaneous item found in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered (FF8, FFVIII) it is used in weapon crafting and can be modded into Double and Triple magic. Dragon Fin is typically obtained as a drop or steal from the Grendel enemy in Final Fantasy VIII, it can also be obtained in a few other ways, as shown below.
Dragon Fin is mainly used as upgrade materials for some of Zell’s weapons as well as the ability to convert it into the very valuable Double and Triple magic. Double and Triple magic is extremely valuable for junctioning into stats. Double Magic is very useful to junction with Hit-J (40 Hit). Triple is best used in any of the following; Str-J (+70 Strength), Mag-J (+70 Magic), Spd-J (+70 Speed), Eva-J (+16 Evade), Hit-J (+150 Hit), and Luck-J (+30 Luck).
How to Find Dragon Fin in the Early Game
In order to obtain Dragon Fin as early as possible, you’ll need to use the Card Mod ability on the Grendel Card. The Grendel Card is fairly common, so if you are frequently battling it shouldn’t take you long to find them. Once you have access to the Galbadia Region, you can also encounter Grendel in the Forest area near the cliffs, Dragon Fin can then be either Mugged or obtained as a Drop from them in the wild. Using Card Mod on the Grendel card will result in you obtaining 1x Dragon Fin.

How to find Dragon Fin as a Drop
Dragon Fin can be obtained as a common drop from the Grendel enemy at all levels. Between levels 1-19 Grendel has a 19% drop rate for Dragon Fin, levels 20-29 have a 69% chance of dropping Dragon Fin, and level 30+ has a 69% chance to drop 2 Dragon Fins and a 19% chance of dropping 4 Dragon Fins. Grendel can be found in the following locations:

How to Steal a Dragon Fin (Mug Ability)
Dragon Fin can also be obtained as a steal, using the Mug ability, against the Grendel enemy fought in the above-listed locations.
