The Abyss Stares Back – Monster Hunter Rise

Our next quest in Monster Hunter Rise is the 6-Star Hub Quest, The Abyss Stares Back. We’re off to the Flooded Forest to hunt a Nargacuga. You’ll find the location of the Nargacuga highlighted on the map so he’ll be no issue to track down.

I still see it. Even now when I close my eyes. A moving void. The darkest dark you could ever imagine. You don’t even know it’s there until it’s too late. From the abyss of night, two streaks of red surge towards you. Before you can even react, it has you.

Monster Hunter Rise

Nargacuga is a Flying Wyvern Class Monster found in the Shrine Ruins and Flooded Forest. It is weak to Thunder, Fire, and Dragon elemental damage.

Nargacuga’s mobility is the biggest issue with this fight, particularly if you weild a heavy weapon. You can let Nargacuga wear itself out, similar to how we deal with a Tigrex, to slow it down and make it a much easier target if you’re having difficulty. Its most dangerous attack is a backflip with a tail slam. Learn what the set up for that move looks like and avoid it. Getting hit with the tail slam can in some cases take more than half of your health bar, severing the tail does nothing to stop this move either. After the tail slam, however, Nargacuga remains open for a counter attack for a short while.

Carves, Drops, and Rewards for slaying a High-Rank Nargacuga can include; Nargacuga Pelt +, Nargacuga Scale +, Nargacuga Fang +, Narga Razor, Narga Tailspike, Nargacuga Tail, Narga Medulla, Wyvern Gem, Nargacuga Marrow, Wyvern Tear, and Large Wyvern Tear.
